Anybody remember a thread from a few weeks ago?

I think it was posted by either Tommy or Irene and it basically said that to fix the economy, all workers over the age of 50 should retire and be given £1,000,000 by the government, with certain provisos. Anyway, I sent it off the Jack Straw, my M.P. and got a letter back saying that he had passed it on to the appropriate section of government and that he would let me know if anything came of it.

Well, I got a letter this morning on House of Common's stationary.

I'll put the cover letter on this first post and then the letter from the Finance guru on the next post. So please just hold back with your posts until the next one is in place.

Cheers,

Steve.

You may have to click on the little arrow next to "attachments" to make the writing big enough to read and if you DO manage to wade through it, does it make you wonder just how many people are employed to think up all of this twaddle and complete gobble-de-gook plus, did anybody notice that at no time did he say that retiring at 50 with £1,000,000 was either a good or bad idea?

Another fine example of political rhetoric and avoidance of a question!

The most interesting thing about that waffle was Javid's unusual signature :^O

Well if I may ask was that #11 on my thread:    Angel of Rumania: Appalled by treatment of 3 million dogs? I will bring it up again. I'm sure Mitz will answer it if you ask her again on that thread. With respects then we too will know what that issue was.

Just as a matter of interest, thank you.......

Mere .... I'm pretty sure that it was Mitzi who brought up the dog subject that I wrote to Jack Straw about. Something to do with getting dog breeders in the UK licensed so as to avoid Puppy farms.

The Romanian dog issue needs sorting out but I would say that it is outside the remit of our Jack. Have you tried sending an e-mail to the Foreign Secretary?

UK Problem Solved

Letter to Mr. Cameron - Genius!!

Dear Mr. Cameron,

Please find below our suggestion for fixing the UK 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.
Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed

2) They MUST buy a new British car.
Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed

4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university -
Crime rate fixed

5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.
Also.....

Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay £600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Think about this (more points of contention):

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Appleby almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the county of Cumbria?

And, they even tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 125,000 illegal immigrants wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also;
Think about this ... If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone -- YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! It is time for us grumpy old folk of Britain to speak up!

Hi Merehazel and Stevie - Yes it was I that commented on this and praised Stevie for taking the time and trouble to write to Jack Straw about it!

Stevie - don't let your letter go unanswered and chase it up by saying ...

"Further to my letter of  ../../.. (copy enclosed for ease of reference) I am disappointed not to have received the courtesy of a reply or acknowledgment which is not only disrespectful but bad practice  ... etc ..  It is evident that this issue is of little importance to you ...etc etc and I would like to hear from you further as to your reasons why!

... Or something to that effect!

Mitzi .... I'm all for sticking it to politicians but only when they have done wrong. I can't send what you suggest to Jack Straw, or is Secretary, because they DID pass the message on to interested parties. It is THOSE scallywags that have let the side down.

So, if you could re-write your words above but aim them at the right folk, I'll be happy to pass the message along.
