OK, so no-one wants to join a "conversation" about UFOs so how about this one?
A few days ago I read a news item about marine fossils being found at the top of Mount Everest. What tickled me about it was the comments which followed it.
In the news item it was claimed that the presence of such fossils "proved" that Noah's Flood happened. Now come on.... for Mount Everest to be covered in water to the depth of 25 feet would need a massive amount of water to suddenly appear on the Planet and would need to remain for a very, very long time. If water to that extent did "arrive" suddenly, where did it all go?"
The length of time the flood supposedly lasted isn't clear either. On the one hand it was said to be 40 days, (Genesis 7:17) and on the other hand 150 days (Genesis 7:24). Neither is long enough for fossils to form?
The truth of the matter is that the mountains were once a sea floor and over billions of years have been uplifted by the collision of the tectonic plates to where the mountains are now. That big floods have happened isn't in dispute (by me anyway), there have been many floods an various parts of the World and they happened for a variety of reasons. In the USA there's the Missoula floods and the Badlands.
For someone to build a boat big enough to take a couple of every species on Earth is quite an undertaking? Where did all the wood come from? Give over? A chap may well have taken a couple of all the species he had around him but not the World. Impossible. A sudden flood would require a huge amount of water and if it was sudden, it would sweep a vessel away? If the Earth was covered, how did he know? Way back then people knew a few miles around them, that was their World and could see as far as the horizon on a clear day from high ground and if that was covered in water, as far as they were concerned, the World as they knew it was covered?
If Mount Everest was covered in water for (giving the longest time stated in Genesis) for five months would marine species have gravitated there in such a short time and when the flood receeded, if they were left behind, how come they were not eroded over time and anyway, how come they managed to get there when Everest is frozen?
So there you are, something more to read, anyone want to argue? Time I went to cook tea 😀

They say all stories, myths, legends, old wives tales or whatever has a grain of truth.
As far as I can see religion is no different.
I've read stories before saying floods happened in the places that are history now.
The point about people not straying far from home explains why they would think the whole world flooded and that they had all the animals they knew of.

Yes, all have a grain of truth in them but before writing was "invented" (and even after that most people were illiterate) stories were handed down by word of mouth so in all probability stories got changed a bit due to Chinese Whispers like the old joke about "Send reinforcements, we're going to advance" being changed as it was passed on to eventually end up as "Send three and fourpence, we're going to a dance"....
