I grew up listening to Cohen, I've already posted a couple of his songs, a while ago, on the " Tunes " thread ; I'll post this one again, because the lyrics are thought provoking.

Leon Russell has died aged 74. Not very well known in the UK but best remembered as a session player for lots of big names in the industry over the years.

Excellent choice there Al, I agree that he was not a great crooner but as a writer he excelled. RIP.
I'd never heard this story about Cohen, but Glasgows Alexander Trocchi was infamous when I was Young in the City

Craig Gill has died aged only 44. Drummer with Inspiral Carpets, one of the top Madchester bands of the late eighties, early nineties.

It was indeed a shock to hear of his death at such a young age. I met him once at one of my son's club nights at the Star and Garter, an almost derelict pub at the rear of Picadilly Station, he and Clint Boon used to turn up out of the blue and play along with a lot of upcoming bands that were signed to my son's record label Akoustik Anarkhy. Met Ian Brown and Damon Gough there too (aka Badly Drawn Boy). Craig wasn't much older than my son, more or less the baby of the band. A really pleasant character, will be sorely missed.

What a shame, a splendid character actor for almost 60 years. Best known for his role as 'Grouty' in Porridge and the father of Wolfie's girlfriend in Citizen Smith. One of his best roles that I remember was as family patriarch Billy Fox in the ITV drama 'Fox' which also starred a very young Ray Winstone. Also seen more recently in Game Of Thrones which I've just started watching.
RIP Peter Vaughn, will be sadly missed.
