Another for Astro.

Astro wanted a thread so people could argue. So far there's not been much argument on the first one so is that because of the sometimes difficulty signing in or have all the argumentative type's gone?

Anyway, anyone wanna argue about builders? Are there any builders on here? If so, can you come up with a good argument as to why so many do as below?

Some weeks ago, scaffolding went up outside a semi-detatched cottage because the roof needs re-doing, the slates are slipping (nails rusted?).

There was no action for weeks after the scaffolding went up until finally some blokes turned up in a signwritten van proclaiming to be "Traditional Builders". So, they took off all the slates and I can see they're piled up on the scaffolding. After the first day the slates were all off and the original laths were visible (no plastic sheets/insulation there). I was thinking "hope it doesn't rain".

Next day, the old laths were gone and plastic sheeting was evident held down by (what looks like) wide-spaced temporary laths (the plastic to keep any rain out). After that, I could hear some work going on around the back of the roof but late last week, no sign of them or this week.

Now, can any builder tell me why the motto of such traditional builders is "We do a bit then leave a lot and clear off to another job"?????? Smiley LOLSmiley LOL

Re: Another for Astro.

My neighbour made me laugh  that is attached to us.   Now our houses are 100 years old and had the little tiles.  They were all crumbling and the roof had no proper lining hence why we had to have it totally replaced.

My neighbour had his done a week or so before we did.    Saying that he had cowboy builders and tried to do it on the cheap.   They reused 2 thirds of his crumbling tiles !   He paid a third of what we did and his "builders " came back at least 3 times in the following month and now he still has a leaking roof and his "builders " have disappeared.

Re: Another for Astro.

Our roof was maintained anually but saying that you can only do that so many times and it was beginning to look like the roof was made of different coloured lego bricks lol

Re: Another for Astro.

That pic is when they were part way through.......Hubby just told me they used close to 4000 tiles 🙂

I think they were Marley tiles.

Re: Another for Astro.

That looks a nice roof now. Marley make clay tiles and concrete tiles.

Re: Another for Astro.

Well finally they're taking the scaffolding down at that house I've been mentioning. It'll soon be gone,

Has Glyns missus gone too?

Re: Another for Astro.

I am still hovering around 🙂  checking on our items ending today.

Just reading an update about our Wolves  star striker who got injured last night.........fractured skull with emergency operation 😞

He lives less than a mile from us so am tempted to put a letter and card through his door.
