No Solution Yet.

Hello All, Some time ago, I posted about problems with logging in to my account. Each time, I had to receive either a code via email or text before I could log in which was a helluva faff. No one replied so I just perservered .

However for the past few days, the email option has disappeared and I am just left with the call to my landline.

This is infuriating and very inconvenient and I have really just stopped browsing Ebay now but I would be grateful if some Techie could help resolve the problem for me.

I do not have a mobile so cannot enable 2 step verification anyway and additionally cannot receive a text to a landline so I am really hampered.

My details are all up to date and verified, as is my browser and cache cleared, my device is "trusted" multiple times and I am the sole user.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: No Solution Yet.

Your kind words are taken on board. Now - depending on which browser you use - probably either Edge, Chrome, Firefox or possibly Safari, there will be settings which control if cookies are cleared when you have the browser set to remember history. This can affect the behaviour of the verification window. If you go to the page in your browser which shows your Cookie settings and press 'ctrl' and 'f12' this will copy the screen. Then reply to me and paste it in the text I'll have a look at it. If that's too much of a faff just tell me which browser you use.

Re: No Solution Yet.

Good Morning,

Thank you for your kind offer to help me.

Although you have explained carefully, I struggle a bit to really comprehend how to follow the instructions and am a bit wary of messing things up even more.

I have had to keep changing the browser from Opera, Duck Duck etc, in an effort to resolve the Verification issues. I am now on Chrome and running out of options.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: No Solution Yet.

Hello - I can't advise unless I know the specific browser you are using as the procedure and layout for each browser type is different. Are you, for instance, using Edge, Firefox, Chrome or whatever? That's why I asked you to let me know what browser you are using.

Cheers,

I thought you might not have got that message for some reason,
which is why I sent again.
Thank you for your time.

Re: No Solution Yet.

Hello - Correct - I didn't see the 11.25am message listing the browsers you've used. Whatever, I've set up Chrome on my PC (you may be on a Mac?) and put in the following settings (click on the three dots top right of Chrome browser and choose Settings).

Go to - Privacy and Security: Third Party Cookies: Sites allowed to use third party cookies: Click on 'Add' button and enter www.ebay.co.uk if you are in the UK or www.ebay.com if you are outside UK.

Close the browser and re-open. Visit ebay and log in. You should be prompted to save username and password details once entered. Do so. You will get the verification window on first log in (I don't know how you have been receiving the code without a mobile but whatever your workaround is). Once logged in and then out again you should subsequently be offered the 'Welcome back' window where your password is already saved and you can log in directly using that window. I have tested this using my details in Chrome and it works fine,  as opposed to my usual Firefox log in, which does not save history or cookies and that asks for verification. I was not offered a verification code on any subsequent log in visits using my Chrome browser with those settings.

My only concern is the hurdle you will face is: the initial log in will want to send a code to your mobile - the original problem - how do you get around that for this one time log in attempt?

Let me know

Bilboted
