L's and I's

I have now had a couple of sales where the buyers post code has letter I in font but its actually an L.

The capital I and lower case L are the same character in the font ebay uses.

This is causing confusion  for royal mail.

I have lost one £65 item due to this.

I now have to vet post codes to check for L's and I's and check on RM site for correct post code.

I had the same problem with a cardigan and for weeks and weeks it went between two towns no where near to where it should have gone so i put a  claim in on line with royal mail for lost item and explained that the cardigan had been going between two towns for weeks and that why didn't a human just read the address instead of it going by the QR code ,I had paid for tracked 24 too . Any way royal mail finally delivered the cardigan to it's proper destination this last fri . So go on the royal mail web site and either put in a complaint or a claim for compensation . They will want proof of where you posted your item, photo of receipt  ,who it was going too ,how much you paid for it  ,and the ebay item number .   If the item was new and you can prove how much you paid for it and you sent it tracked 24 or 48 they should give you all your money back ,other wise it will just be the postage cost .

Presumably this happens when the buyer enters their postcode in lower case, and it contains the letter "L"? Postcodes should always be capitalised and most couriers do so automatically when you purchase labels directly. Presumably this doesn't work when you buy postage via eBay, or when using Simple Delivery? If so, eBay should fix this.

I have found this in the past too,   easy to mistake an I for an L, and always here,  go to Google Maps for confirmation of the correct postcode.

Didn't check once, and the item was queried in PO, but as I still use my friendly village PO they checked and corrected it for me,  think a major PO in centre of town may have just packed me off home , with parcel not sent.

However,  does beg to ask will the bot arranging SD postage labels know the difference?  Me thinks they're not gonna hop to Google Maps to check?  🤔

I’ve noticed this with O & 0, buyers not putting their correct postcodes in. As royal  mail doesn’t recognise the postcode.
So I have to double check their addresses which is time consuming in itself.

Yep, that's another one , many a time I'm back on Google Maps for the answer to the  0 / O  question.  🤔

Wonder how SD will deal with the extra space in a postcode. I have an OBA with RM and problems with a postcode gets me a warning when i apply postage to an order. Been times when it has flagged a 0 that should be a O but a new one was an extra space in the postcode making it invalid. It understands  example AA11AA and AA1 1AA but adding an extra space makes it invalid AA1  1AA. that extra space is hard to notice

I always check postcodes correspond with the address on Google before I post just to double check.
