I sold a fragrance and chose to send it via special delivery, at my own cost, as RM’s insurance wasn’t sufficient.
The item was posted and the buyer received it the next day and left me positive feedback.
EBay still thought it was yet to be dispatched and so I clicked on create postage thinking I could paste in my tracking code and instead it created a Royal Mail label for the fragrance.
And eBay now thinks it’s dispatched but hasn’t arrived. And it never will.
What can I do? Does it matter? I foresee eBay refunding the buyer automatically if it never arrives. I contacted customer services and they said they’ll take the special delivery tracking code I gave the buyer in a message as proof of postage. But I’m worried eBay will automatically refund the buyer one day out of the blue. And it wasn’t a cheap fragrance. Not sure what to do. Shall I just send an empty box to the buyer using the eBay label?

The advice by the agent was correct. You will have to wait for payment but will get it eventually.
Simple delivery labels cover you for up to £750 by the way.

As a Private seller you could/ should be using Simple Delivery and here this covers you for up to £750.
You cannot now add any new tracking, eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details. If a case is opened later for item not received, you will be able to add those tracking details.
A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:
The messages to post will soon stop, your payout will be held for a minimum of 14 days now.
