I’ve been struggling to verify age to buy some cutlery. When entering credit card details I get an error “Unfortunately, we ran into a problem and couldn't process your card. Please contact Customer Support.”
I was on the phone to customer support for 30 minutes stuck at a dead end. I tried two cards, using both iPhone and a laptop and two browsers. Also tried checking out as a guest. At a loss here!

As no-one else has replied-
Keep trying (tomorrow) - somethings work better on weekdays.
Contacting customer services early in the morning seems to be preferable - more likely to get someone fairly close e.g. Dublin.
And do note it has to be a credit card not a debit card. I don't know whether ebay accepts credit cards from anyone or if they have to be be from specific e.g. mainstream and/or UK companies.

Hi All,
This is a known issue on our side.
The Tech Team are currently looking into the cause. As of yet I don't have am expected timeframe for a fix but I'll post an update as soon as I have one.
Thanks,
Dave

Keep an eye on this thread, community manager dave@ebay will report here when the issue has been fixed.
I'm afraid tech issues are put in a priority order of importance for 'fixing' . so this may not be instantly attended to ?🤔

Is this fixed yet?

I was able to verify and order this afternoon

If it helps anyone, I've just got through verification by using a different credit card.
The one which hit the error wall is the one already linked to my account. Both are mastercard credit cards, registered with the same name and address. I've had both for years (like, 25 years for one), both are valid for another couple of years, both have several thousand available credit etc etc. The only difference I can see is that I couldn't verify with the card ebay already knows about.
After several attempts with the first card I started hitting a generic technical error on the item I was trying to order, so I was no longer even seeing the verification message and screen. So I found some jigsaw blades and went through the buy it now steps, which triggered the screen again. Card linked to my account failed as before, new card ebay has never heard of went straight through. Then I could return to the original item, accept the seller's offer and pay.

Thanks people! I managed to get mine through too yesterday but strangely got a msg from my bank to say they’re randomly cancelling my debit card & sending a new one. Bit of a coincidence 🤔

This is getting ridiculous. I'm 45 years old. I never owned a credit card in my life because I don't like to to get in debt. Why can't ebay accept other forms of age verification, like driver ID?

If I’m guessing, it’s due to the higher cost of that form of verification.
but eBay haven’t said why. Your options as of now are buy the product elsewhere or complain to eBay customer services and hope that enough people complain to make it worth Ebays while to put in further age verification

"Your options as of now are buy the product elsewhere or ... "
From my economics lectures (50 years ago) I recall that a principal feature of a free market economy is that a seller or service provider that fails to perform to customers' satisfaction will lose business to those that do.
If that happens consistently, customers will eventually end up with better products and services, as the poor quality goods and services will be replaced by better ones (or will have to improve their performance to survive).
So yes, take your custom elsewhere. You'll be contributing your incremental bit to improving the economy tor the benefit of us alll.

Is this fixed yet as I am considering giving up eBay altogether ! 51 years of age plus all eBay accounts are for over 18 year olds only anyway ! And I can’t buy a jigsaw !

Any update on this? Its ridiculous. I've been using Ebay as an adult for 20+ years. What a way to lose business.

EBay haven’t responded , but the seller who I was trying to buy a jigsaw ( that came with 4 jigsaw blades ) has said he’s finding it’s affected his sales …and I agree as I brought the jigsaw off eBay and now I am using eBay less ….silly considering all eBay accounts are for adults .🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ .
i hope you have had better fortune with it ? .
