Mike

The other day we was talking about diclofenics and you mentioned that they are the only thing that really helps you. I told my dad that and he wanted to give them a try. He said hes had them before and was fine with them, he took a strip of mine home and within a few hours of taking 1 his pain in the knees was going down, the swelling had also started to go down quite quickly. By the next day he was able to bend his leg at the knee, something hes not been able to do for months! he was so much happier in himself and could even walk to my house(which is only about 8 doors away). Well hes had the results of his INR are its gone up to 8 and the doctors are refusing to give him any on perscription and i cant risk giving him any because i would feel to guilty if anything happened. What i wanted to ask you is are you on warferine as well? im sure i read that you are but i mihgt be just getting confused. He ran out last night and i nearly cried seeing him today, he can hardly walk again and every step hes wincing:-( I think there is some cream that contains diclofenic so im going to buy some of that for him tomorrow to rub in and hopefully that will help a little bit. The doctors that my mum and dad go to are really bad and im just wondering if its them being awkward and not letting him have them or wheather he really shouldnt be having them. I know when i had my hysterectomy i was on both but it was only for a few days.

Sorry for waffling on but i thought i best explain it as best i can:-)

Re: Mike

Sounds like you have a really nice doctor Mike. I have made a note of them tablets, i'll let you try them out 1st to see how good they are before i pass on the message to dad, let me know in a few days what you think of them;) I really hope they work well for you.

I spoke to our chemist lady today about them, and shes said shes not heard anything about not prescribing them, but like she said its really nothing to do with her. Maybe its working down and us lot down here will be the last to hear about it. My brother told my dad you can buy them from the chemist and i forgot to ask whilst i was in there, im going to look online in a bit. If you can i reckon they will stop giving them out on prescription just to save money and we will have to all buy them. I been on them years now, 1st for my woman problems after my hysterectomy, then i think i went about a year without them, then i had them for my arm when it was dislocated and then operated on, and ive not stopped taking them since because although my arm is 80% better i got the slipped discs and thats what i take them for now.  Maybe i should try some sort of heat rub instead every other day?:| I will wait to see what the doctors say when i next see them:-)

Re: Mike

I don't think it's about the money Kay as they are a cheap product; I think it's because of the side effects that  they don't suit some people. There's a whole lot of other pills that you shouldn't take them with; my new ones say that they are not recommended to be taken with two of my regular pills that I take, but it's up to the doc to decide the risks.  All pills are toxic to some extent and all have some side effects. It's just how bad the effects are. And it's all a balance between the side affects and the cure.

Will let you know how I get on. As far as I know neither Diclafenac or Meloxicam are available without prescription but they may well be in the States.

Re: Mike

I forgot to look if they was sold yesterday, but they are! that really suprised me. Boots do them in a lower dose of 12.5mg for £5.61

http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Pharmaceuticals-Diclofenac-Potassium-12-5mg-Tablets_1133463/

I take 150mg a day so it would cost a bomb if i bought them:-p

The 1 tablet seems to be helping dad so thats good, hes having his bloods done tomorrow so will wait and see if thats done anything:-)

And i know youre right about the side effects, everything comes with that though doesnt it, well to a certain degree anyway. I know i wouldnt be able to get on so well if i didnt have my tablets, i have 150mg diclofenacs, 8 cocodamol tablets and 225mg antidepressants a day. No wonder i get a bloated tummy sometimes!:^O

Re: Mike

Have you checked the side effects of your anti. d's Kay? Many of them have weight gain or/and make you hungrier than normal side effect 😞

Re: Mike

Kay, the ones Boot sells are a quarter of the dose of the 50mg ones and they are Potassium based; the ones from the docs are usually Sodium based. That's why you're probably allowed to buy them.

Glad your dad is getting on with them OK; they give you a new life, especially if you have been hobbling around in pain.

My new ones, Meloxicam 7.5mg, seem to be working OK, in fact a bit better than the Diclofenac, although I've only had them for a few days. Time will tell. Have to go back in 3 weeks to see how I'm getting on with them.

Re: Mike

Youre right Anne, the side effects are weight gain with the anti depressants, but i cant cope without them. They did try me on other 1s but they was nowhere near as good as these at calming me down. I got polycystic ovaries and that makes you gain weight too, so i got plenty of excuses for being a fatty!:-p:^O

And its really good news that your tablets seem to be working Mike, fingers crossed for you;) we'll all soon be fit as fiddles:-D

I noticed the diclofenacs was a lower dose from boots, better than nothing i suppose if really needed. I should have another physio appointment sent soon, i could hopefully get off them and the pain killers then:-D

Re: Mike

You're not fatty shape Kay 😮 You're real woman shape! Stick insect girls or women look awful IMO, skeletons wearing skin, you can see all their bones. Kate lost far too much wreight for her wedding day, good job her dress was covering all her bones. Yuck.

Re: Mike

You're right Ann, most men don't like stick inscts either. In fact in the Middle East 'generously proportioned women' (that was the kindest way I could think of putting it) are highly prized.

What annoys me is that according to the doctors anyone over 10 stone is considered obese. It's many decades since I was that light; probably in my early school days, LOL.

The tablets are still working very well and I'm only taking one a day although I could take two if necessary. Let's hope they last. No side effects at the moment either. 🙂

Re: Mike

I thought she had gotten a bit to skinny to Anne, i would love to be somewhere inbetween though:| If i could razor a few inches off my hips and arse i wouldnt mind so much, im working at it though:-)

And Mike thats a lovely way to put a name to bigger ladies, youre a real gentleman;)

My mum is only 4 foot 11 inches and because she weighs 10 1/2 stone she classed as obese but she got massive boobs but that dont count! bless her and she hates them!:^O

Looks like them tablets are going to be good for you then Mike, thats good news:-D

Re: Mike

They are supposed to be kinder to the other organs so they prefer them to Diclafenac Kay; let's hope they'll let him have some.

Have you swapped his doctors over yet?

I have phoned my surgery and they open their books later in the year to take on new people. Im hoping mum and dad will go for the change. They will both be so much better off than where they are now:-)

And just so i can have a moan......My back is killing me:_|:-p

Re: Mike

My back plays up occasionally if I do a lot off bending over, lifting, gardening, etc. but the NSAIDs seem to help that too. 🙂

Nothing seems to of done my back any good the last few days, i got a constent burning pain like a poker being pushed through my spine, and the pain goes over my hip and into my arse cheek:| its got to be the sciatica playing up again i think. Im being brave though:-D

Re: Mike

I think they said that a quarter of the population suffers from a bad back, I've had my share or it in the past. Leaning over things and lifting heavy items seems to be the favourite to set it off. 😞

Re: Mike

I had the helpful information once that we all suffer with bad backs because we arent meant to be walking on 2 limbs, we are made to walk on 4, as if that bit of information helps me 1 little bit!:| Bending over hurts but the worse pain for me is trying to stand back up, thats when i get the burning pain, and my hip feels like it locks or something? I dont know but i feel like a very old 36 year old sometimes:-p The exercise i do for my twisted hip dont make any difference at all, its all bullshit!:| the only way is pills:^O

Re: Mike

Lol! That's a proven fact Kay. When you consider the size of most people's feet in comparison to the size of our bodies, we're balancing very precariously. That's why it's so difficult for a toddler to learn how to walk and the many falls and tears they have while learning.
