Don't worry Cherie; it's a false positive which occurs when you run AVG and Windows Defender (disable Windows Defender).
See here...

I guess they'll cure it on the next update. 🙂
You can stop worrying now. 🙂

Yes, I know how worrying it can be; had a few false alarms here and occasionally lost sleep over it in the past; plays on your mind. 😞
You're lucky that I happened to drop in though; just by chance.
If you ever get these type of things, always check the AVG forum first to see if it is a false positive, they'll know first.
If it is a nasty do a scan with Malwarebytes; that removes most of them.

I haven't used AVG for years Marco, I prefer Avast, but if you change over to that from AVG you have to run a special program to completely get rid of AVG before installing Avast.

Seems theres a discussion on AVG i thought i would join in:-D
When mine does a scan (daily)it finds over 100 warnings, but never seems to do anything with them? am i meant to do something or will avg automatically be getting rid of them?
20-10-2010 10:25 PM
Warnings can be ignored cos its usually referring to tracking cookies
Feel free to carry on letting all the advertising companies see what you get up to
20-10-2010 11:19 PM
if you use a hosts file most adverts dont show up anyway

I haven't seen the AVG reports box for a few years as I don't use it but it would usually be safe to delete or quarantine anything it finds. There must be a button there somewhere.

I will take a look, its only if im quick i see it, because when the scan finishes a box pops up for about 5 seconds with the results of the scan

I just installed AVG on a Vista PC. The only choice I got was a pay for deal, I thought AVG always use to do a free version and a pay for version?
25-10-2010 8:30 AM
I think that you can still get the free version but they've made it very hard to find the link.
However you'd be much better off with Avast; that has a free version and I use it on my two computers.

well, not sure why but the button on the avast page that your link links to wouldnt work and wont let me download it. Don't know what thats all about?
AND have you got a link to the AVG cleanout software you allegedly require?
25-10-2010 6:04 PM
Bugger looks like I downloaded the wrong one. Not much I can do now as I gave the computer back today.
Cheers

All the removal programs for Anti-virus software that you no longer want to use can be found here...
http://cgi3.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=grumpy-cook
Under Anti-virus removal.
You have to get rid of all the rubbish installed by these programs before you can install a different one, otherwise you can have problems. Just uninstalling them will not do.
If it was that easy they wouldn't be safe against viruses as they could easily disable them.
