Why do eBay charge 10% for postage that is a service which an element of that cost is insurance

I don't understand why eBay charge a percentage for postage in their sellers fee's. This is a service eBay don't supply and is normally supplied by the seller 

there is also a part of the postage that goes towards tracking which is eBay policy and yet they take a profit on that. 

jusy cancelled all my items for sale in protest, I know it won't make a difference but pure greed in my view

You've been an ebayer for almost 16 years... Ebay have been charging this fee for many of those years... You and every single seller were sent multiple emails and messages well in advance of this change all those years ago... And Ebay have been charging you for it every single month for all those years... Yet you've only just discovered this. I'm amazed.

Every other venue I sell on charges a selling fee based on the full invoice amount, including shipping. This is not something that's exclusive to Ebay.

I know, eBay are going to cancel them when they automatically resist. They couldn’t cancel because they had limited time to run.

you can end a listing that doesn't have bids right up to the last second, the 12 hours only applies if you have received bids

you need to end those listings, ebay won't do it for you

You can end your auction listing early if:

• There are no bids on your item.
• There are bids on your item, and you are willing to sell your item to the current highest bidder.
• There are bids on your item, and you don’t want to sell it to the highest bidder, but there are 12 or more hours left in the listing. In this situation, you’ll need to cancel all active bids before you can end your listing. We charge a fee for ending a listing in this way.

You can’t end your auction listing early if:

• There are fewer than 12 hours left in the listing, you’ve received bids, and you don’t want to sell it to the highest bidder.
• There are fewer than 12 hours left in the listing, you’ve received bids, but the item’s reserve price hasn’t been met yet.

If your listing isn't eligible to be ended early, you can contact any bidders to explain the situation and ask them to retract their bids. If the auction has finished, you can contact the winner and, if they agree, you can cancel the transaction.

Ending listings early disappoints bidders, so we may place limits and restrictions on your account if you are doing so regularly.

You can’t when it is under 12 or 24 hours I was on the we chat to eBay this morning and they said they cannot end it

Help, all I have had is abuse from these people. I am not happy about eBay charging 10% for a service they do not supply and I had nothing but abuse all afternoon from these people. Making assumptions that I should have known, well I didn’t and have learnt today that they do in fact charge for a service they don’t supply. Like selling a car and offering to get the mot done for the buyer. EBay wouldn’t charge 10% for the mot. It’s almost stealing and I know it’s in the terms and conditions but come on who has time to read them. I joined years ago and their conditions change all the time. I don’t expect to be in the line of fire because I didn’t know and I am Not being rude just saying as it is.

Those members who offer Free P & P have always paid in full. Paypal charges on the Full Amount.

If you want to sell you pay, it is your choice whether you sell or not, but pricing is up to the seller just as with any business it is up to the seller to see that price covers costs. 

If everyone who objects to a cost stopped selling, it is the seller who loses out.

PLEASE not another question about why eBay charges a 10% fee on P&P costs! It's been debated to death for literally years!

Some blame a minority of sellers who evaded fees by inflating the postage charge for making it necessary. Others believe that eBay used this as an excuse to add extra fee which they do nothing to earn to the millions of items sold here.

Who's right hardly matters. It's here to stay, whether we like it or not.

too many sellers were avoiding ebay fees by putting 99p as the item price and loading the actual cost into the P&P, so ebay weren't getting any money,

also they worked out they could increase their revenue without increasing the fee % so it was a win win situation for them,

this was discussed to death when it was first introduced and a lot of sellers stated they were leaving, most of them are still here!

sensible sellers increase their P&P or start price to cover this extra fee.

Calculate all those costs add them to your starting price, so in effect the buyer pays and you are not out of pocke!

Absolutely not, I do get it eBay lost out due to some people charging 99p for the item and adding the cost of the product on postage, so they now charge 10% for postage a service which they DO NOT provide or have any thing to do wIth

They provide a selling platform which has trillions of viewers..AND they are the cheapest by far.
Not greed at all as other platforms have an incorporated fee and higher than eBay!
