Refused Parcel - Help!

Good Evening! I have been checking my deliveries of my sold items, and I've just come across one that says 'REFUSED - TO BE RETURNED TO SENDER'. I've not ever encountered this before, and am just wondering what it means? Should I contact the buyer to ask if they refused it? Thank you for your help 🙂

It would probably be best to check with the buyer first, as if the item was delivered to the correct address but the buyer refused to accept the parcel then it may well be that the buyer has changed his/her mind and no longer wants the item.  Alternatively the parcel may have been delivered to the correct address but refused by another person living there, despite the fact that it was not his/her place to refuse another person's parcel without their consent.  It's also possible that the item was delivered to the wrong address in the first place, hence the reason why the person who the parcel was delivered to told the postman to return the item to the sender.

If the buyer confirms that he/she refused the parcel then ascertain why the buyer did so.  If the buyer has changed his/her mind then cancel the sale, citing "The buyer and I have agreed to cancel this transaction" and the buyer's money will be refunded.

If the buyer informs you that somebody else from his/her household must have refused the item then ascertain whether or not the buyer still wants the item.  If the buyer does want it then you could repost the item again, although you could ask the buyer to pay the cost of having to post it again, but if the buyer has changed his/her mind and no longer wants the item then just cancel the sale as advised earlier.

Should it turn out that the item was misdelivered then if the buyer still wants the item apologise to the buyer for the delay and inform him/her that you will repost the item as soon as you receive it back again.  That way you've got the best chance of being able to resolve the situation amicably with the buyer, whatever the reason for the parcel being returned to you, and hopefully you won't end up receiving any negative feedback in relation to the transaction.

In the event that you feel as though the buyer is just a timewaster add his/her User ID to your Blocked Bidders List.  To do this click on this link https://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/ebay/isapi.dll?bidderblocklogin and a big white box will appear on the screen.  Add the buyer's User ID to that white box, then click on the Submit button beneath it.  Once you have done that the buyer will not be able to purchase anything else that you advertise for sale on the site.
