I am trying to lower / remove the reserve price of an item, to ensure it sells. Unfortunately, it won't seem to save the changes I make and leaves the old reserve price on the listing? Can anyone help? Thanks
You will still pay the fee for the reserve at the original figure.
You have 3 days to go,you might just as wll stick with it, see what the situation is when it ends and if the highest bid is satisfactory make a second Chance Offer to the under bidder.
I'd be inclined to let the listing run to the end, just to see what happens. If the item doesn't reach its reserve then it won't sell; however, eBay will still charge you for having used the reserve option on the listing, regardless of whether it sells or not.
If the item doesn't reach its reserve then if you decide to relist it for sale on eBay again then set the starting price at the minimum price that you would be willing to accept for the item, making sure that you take into account eBay and PayPal's cut of the final selling price so that even if you only receive one bid you're still left with an amount that you find acceptable, even after eBay and PayPal have both taken their cut of the final selling price.
As far as the reserve function is concerned, it's really nothing more than another way for eBay to milk sellers for even more money than they deserve, given the poor service that they provide with such a glitchy site, all the site "improvements" that only serve to exacerbate existing problems and/or create new ones, and the fact that eBay provide next to no seller protection that's actually worth speaking of. Therefore, make sure that you always start your auctions off at the minimum price that you'd be willing to accept, plus a certain amount added on to take into account eBay and PayPal's cut of the final selling price, and if the item sells then you should end up with a price that you'd be happy with.
You can't make any changes to a listing that has bids.
Reserves are charged for (at the original figure you set), whether the item sells or not, as are all listing extras. Listing fees are never refundable. Your best bet in future is to start your auctions at the minimum price you're happy to accept.
