Paying with PayPal but collection only.

HI, someone has just paid for my apple press with ebay but they want to collect it this weekend. I had put cash on collection. Should I insist they bring cash and then refund them the paypal amount?

For information :- Try to avoid PayPal for collection items if at all possible ... Cash payments (or cleared Bank Transfer) are safest and best for collection items = Immediate payment ... so ..
No 21 day payment holds, PayPal fees, need for scans/codes or risk of later Chargebacks/disputes/refund requests etc. ...

There is a rumour that eay slaps a defect on your account for refunding outside a case but that wasn't my experience when I refunded once.

You can't insist they pay cash but you can certainly ask if they would mind if you refunded and they brought cash with them.

I did this myself, granted it was over a year ago, and I did not get hit with a defect but this isn't to say that you wouldn't.

If both you and the buyer have the phone app there's a new security measure now where the buyer gets a QR code sent to his phone and you scan it with yours at the point of collection but the reviews on this are very hit and miss.

Hi, thanks for your very quick reply but I don't have a phone that takes 'apps' LOL It's a basic mobile for phone calls. I have written to ask if they would mind paying cash, as that way I have heard I have some protection. I feel certain that they are genuine but we never know do we.

You could have written on your ad in large letters 'Cash on collection preferred' which may have alerted your buyer, and yes, you have more protection when the buyer pays cash.
