So I sold some camera gear on ebay over the past month, the last one about 2 weeks ago. I recieved an email from paypal last night stating that I "sent" 176.89 to ebay support. I didn't send anything and I thought it was some scam until I saw it for myself in my paypal account.
After some revision I find out that it is some kind of fee for selling items. Of course I know you have to pay for selling items but your constantly bombarded with emails such as "Max selling fees £1" and "Free listings available" etc. But I have no clue how it calculated this high amount, or why it's waited until now to suddenly take the money. I could not find a breakdown and can only find a confusing page in "seller account". There's already an "amount due" at 39.10 for god knows what and now this other large amount which will be 215.99!
I chat with someone in Help & Contact about it and they explain that it's a 10% charge of the sell value. That means if you sell something that's worth a bit of money you simply get ripped off. I can tell you if I knew about this before hand I wouldn't have sold it on here. It's even more confusing when an item sells for say 950.00 but it goes through into your paypal at 914.56 you assume any money you owe the site has already been deducted.
The fact of the matter is that none of this was made that clear when I was selling the items, and the money that I got has already been split up and paid into other accounts and paid for other things. And to make matters worse it waits to send you a damn bill, why doesn't it at least take the "fee" off the final sale value once the money has been recieved?
I feel frustrated and annoyed like I've fell for some scam. I'm never going to sell anything on here again knowing the high price you pay.
PayPal's payment processing fee is taken at the point when the buyer's payment arrives at your PayPal account.
Ebay's fees are invoiced monthly.
Click on the invoice in your Ebay account. It will give you an itemised breakdown.
Then have a proper look at Ebay's (and PayPal's) fees in the Seller Centre (link at foot of any page). They couldn't be any clearer, so I have no idea how this has come as a shock to you. Not least because you are shown exactly what the fees will be during the listing process, and before you hit the 'Submit with above fees' button.
Everything you need to know about selling on Ebay is right here on the site (links at top and foot of any page). You are supposed to do your homework before listing anything for sale. That's what Ebay provides the information for, so that you can make informed decisions. You can hardly blame Ebay for your failure to open your eyes and read.
Hi
On Ebay it is free to LIST (so long as you do not use a listing upgrade) but it is not free to SELL
If your item sells then Ebay usually charge you 10% fees on the total amount payable by your buyer (subject to any promotion)
To check out your Ebay fees which will be invoiced to you monthly go to your home My Ebay page and look under the account tab. You should be able to see your invoices there.
When you sell an item and the buyer pays by paypal.......Paypal also charge you fees which are taken immediately payment is made and this is why you get less in your actual Paypal account.
If you get a promotion, say for £1 max FVF, you really must read all the terms and conditions to make sure your listing is eligible for the offer. For example automatic relists are often excluded etc
