i am selling a few things on my personal account. can i put holiday settings on or is this only for business accounts?

That option is only available to sellers with shops.

You need to end all your listings well before you go (ideally at last 3 weeks beforehand), or you risk returning to a trashed (or even permanently suspended) selling account.
