Any idea why eBay add a code number to buyer's postal address?

The Buyer's address now has a code number added to it - any idea why or what it is used for?

If you go to the eBay Announcements page and click on the title that reads "Royal Mail Tracking And Delivery Events On eBay From 1st September 2020" then you will be able to find more information about the matter there, which ought to make it clearer as to why eBay have decided to do this.
