A buyer has won an auction and paid. I have dispatched by post, buyer now asking to cancel

What is the best course of action to take here. Buyer says they have bought new and no longer need the item. There were several bidders and it was won by £1. 

I guess that I could just say 'tough', but is there a mechanism for a better solution that doesn't leave me out of pocket?

tell him he can return it at his own cost for a change of mind refund,

once he has received it and opened a returns case.
