eBay SD supplied an underweight postage label.

Hi i normally customise the postage to Royal Mail tracked 48. Unfortunately i made a mistake and sold an item with Simple Delivery as the postal method. The result being my parcel is 1.4 kg and eBay has supplied a Tracked 48 label with a weight up to 1 kg. Obviously i cannot use it. Does anyone know the best way to resolve the issue. I would be grateful for replies to my dilemma. Thanks

The best thing to do is cancel/refund the transaction with the buyer's agreement (via the dropdown actions menu arrow for the item on your orders list) and relist with correct postage for the buyer to buy and pay again.

Or you could buy the correct postage yourself.   See if you can add the new tracking number via the dropdown menu (on a desktop browser).    If not the payment will be released anyway in 14 days but  you won't have proof of delivery.

If you paid for the original label you can cancel it here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller
If the buyer paid for it it will be refunded automatically in 30 days.

Buyer paid for simple delivery. If i now purchase another label from Royal Mail and pay for it, i will be out of pocket. The label supplied by eBay will not be used but will i have the refund of the cost i.e who has the refund? My item wasn't listed as free postage. First time using Simple delivery and what a poor system it is.

With Simple Delivery, it is supposed to be ok use the label, even if it is not the correct weight for the item.

Simple Delivery has 'approximated' the weight, so it doesn't matter if the item weighs more than what it says on the label.

I think many would agree with you..!

As stated, provided the item is still within the maximum weight and dimensions for the carrier then you can still use the supplied label and it will be accepted at no additional cost to you or your buyer:

'If you use the recommended parcel size and your item exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, you won’t be charged any additional costs. Just go ahead and use the Simple Delivery postage label. The courier will accept your package providing it remains within the maximum weight and dimensions for the service.'

Thanks for your reply, i am not sure what you mean by providing its within the maximum weight for the service. This is because it says on the Royal Mail tracked 48 label supplied weight up to 1 kg and as i said the parcel is 1.4 kg. Will this be accepted at the Post Office?  Will Royal Mail apply the overweight surcharge to my buyer?

Best i contact Customer Service in the morning and hopefully speak to an agent for clarification. One thing for sure i won't be using SD again.

Just to double check - does the label say Marketplace seller and (possibly) Paid and printed from eBay Simple Delivery?

Because I've received about 4 or 5 SD packets and the label on them doesn't mention the weight. (I heard that some labels printed at the Post Office have mentioned the size or weight - not sure if that is fixed yet.)

To reiterate xyz307xyz's point above there were some problems with the Post Office accepting overweight parcels , but the current understanding is that Simple Delivery labels should not display a weight and should have 'Marketplace Seller' printed on them. If you were able to double check the label ebay have provided it would be interesting if this is a Simple Delivery label with a weight on it.

If its a small or medium size parcel with the RM then the price for a 1kg parcel is the same as 2kg parcel.

Think you'll be fine just sending it personally.

There are a number of threads about whether or not your local post office will accept a label when the package weighs more than the weight shown on the label.  But I haven't had a problem at my 2 nearest POs for an odd listing sold with SD rather than my custom postage.

I wonder whether it would be better for there to be no weight shown on SD labels?  It would remove this concern that the PO might not accept it.

OP, I'd try your PO so that you are not delaying dispatch.  If they accept it, Royal Mail won't surcharge the buyer for the label showing underweight.  If the PO turns you away of tries to sell a new label, apparently you can tell ebay.  Allegedly.

No idea what ebay does with that info.
