A while ago before ebay allowed video uploads I had a few listings where I had included a link to a youtube video of the item. The youtube page is literally just a short video of the item. This morning these listings were ended and I received the email pasted below suggesting that they violated the 'Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay' policy. I guess it would technically be possible for someone to contact me through the youtube page.
Is this a new implementation of the policy, a rogue bot or should these links never have been allowed?
In these cases I can upload the videos to ebay instead, but for longer videos would there be a way to include youtube videos that is allowed?
Key part of message:
Your listing didn't follow our Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay policy. Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay, including sharing direct contact information prior to an eBay purchase, is not allowed.
What is the policy
Buyers and sellers can’t:
- Engage in any action with a user on the site designed to complete or facilitate a transaction outside of eBay
- Share or request direct contact information prior to completing a sale. This includes:
-- Name
-- Addresses
-- Phone number
-- Email address
-- Social media ID
-- Instant messenger ID
-- External website addresses (URLs)
-- Payment information
-- Bank details
- In any communications with another eBay member, refer to or promote external websites that facilitate sales outside of eBay
- Use contact information obtained through an eBay transaction to offer to buy or sell an item outside of eBay
- List an item and then mention or link to additional identical or related items for sale outside of eBay
- Offer catalogues or other items that are used to order items directly outside of eBay

You have to the upload videos to the eBay listing
You can't just add a link to a your social media (youtube) videos as that breaches eBay rules by giving out your social media ID on youTube

Thanks for this.
The other mention I found of youtube is the links policy page which seems a bit confusing, it states both
'Links in a description are only allowed for the following: ... Product video'
but also
'Videos must be embedded within item descriptions and are only allowed from sites on this list...
YouTube'
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-policies/links-policy?id=4248
I'll get rid of my links in any case - annoyingly it now seems impossible to delete the listings that got ended from my unsold items

Embedding isn't just adding a link to a video for people to click to be directed to another site
You actually embed the video in the listing, so it can be watched without clicking away from eBay
There is a difference, and I think that is where the problem lies

Yes that's what I mean about the links page, it says both that links to product videos are allowed but also that videos must be embedded within item descriptions.

Yes, it's badly worded but videos must be embedded, not linked
Buyers must not leave the eBay site to watch the video
