Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

its all hit and miss still ,listed one item under garden stuff and is working as 2024 put your own kg .grams and sizes ? but most are SD and a few have the custom option but ebay may ,have & will change your postage with out notice !

You can still chose custom when using the app on a tablet or phone
it seems when using the web version of eBay it’s not so simple , you have to find a workaround as the option to click on advanced options (which is where custom postage was hiding) is not there anymore , at least for me and it always was until recently
you find an item which definitely has got custom delivery options and do a sell one like this or start a listing and call it something , anything, which can’t possibly go with simple delivery, ie kitchen table and chairs and custom should come up automatically
then after setting your postage go back and change the category and postage should be retained
stupid isn’t it
having said that
ebay says you MUST use simple delivery UNLESS you have an item that doesn’t have to be sent that way ie
under a tenner and under 100g, over 750£ or overweight (more than 20kg) or oversized (more than royal mails medium parcel size)

I have not found that to be true. Even in the app.
I use a tablet and (less often) a phone, and ‘custom’ postage was completely removed for me in mid April, no advanced options, no ability to retain my own postage by any means whatsoever, no workarounds. I’d love to know what the workaround is that you seem to be saying still exists.
So for me only the last part of what you say above has been the case. I obviously can’t speak for anyone else’s experience.

I had an oversized (for RM) item which needed to go by Evri which I was unable to select. eBay (chat and email) told me to just choose an option for 'more than the cost' and 'it would all be OK. RM would accept it without a problem. They wouldn't so i used Vinted instead.

On my iphone I only get custom postage for international.
How can it be SO different on different devices?

Edwardian looks totally different to mine and I can only use a tablet. I have package size, which if you scroll to bottom of that, it says switch to custom postage, click on that. I can still use that at the moment.

sometimes you get extra large parcel option under the “see all package dimensions”
its screwed up imho if different people get different things on their screens
so annoying at best EBAY are you listening at all? if so sort your *bleep* out

I suspect the reality is that we are not all seeing the same item listing page, remember you are logged in and I think Ebay are serving up different pages to different people. Probably all part of a staggered roll out.
I can still chose custom postage on any of the platforms I use to list items, I doubt it will last for long.

If it was a person I’d say they were borderline xyz personality disorder
if an employee id say totally dysfunctional and needing the sack like last year
instead we have announcements to let us know how wonderful things are

I think my main issue is lack of communication on this. It was rolled out before ready and on top of that, it was (probably) set up by someone/s who have never ever sold on ebay or used one, never mind all, of the available shipping companies. Ive used most of the main ones, DHL, Evri, Royal Mail, UPS and Fedex (never used yodel) so I have an idea how they work. All have different sizes/service and you cant really use sizing interchangeably.
It might have been easier to set up smaller parcels first through SD and sort out collections/bring a label for those that have it available (I do collections due to disability) and once that is running, do hot fixes. Testing properly before launching would also help. I know SD was running before it was made mandatory so at a guess, the current format is based on what those ‘trialing’ it used.
Either way, its a monumental fluff up and shouldn’t be forced on everyone.

Mine doesn’t look like that. As I said.
I can see the tracked options down to large parcel, (Royal Mail only as I’m Highlands of Scotland) - and there’s a button that says ‘choose untracked postage’ and I could choose to buy an untracked service from eBay, but not use my own postage like ‘Advanced Options’ used to let you.

There seem to be quite a few different iterations of this being shown, as we can see here.
I was completely switched to the new system six weeks ago. No messing. I was part of the testing group for automated feedback over a year ago so I’m assuming I was in the first group to be enrolled fully into SD as part of that, but who knows, I have never been informed of anything by eBay.

Think it's changed on mine as well now, I listed things thursday night by custom postage, friday came to relisting & I could only do it with simple Delivery. I don't have a mobile phone that has internet connection, I don't have a printer, just me & my Desk Top. You see i am not lazy I am quite capable of writing out the postal address on my parcel and then go to the post office & post it signed or Special. I have spoken to Ebay & am awaiting a reply, all of my items are under £10 except from the odd one now and again. Over 20 years I have used Ebay and will not be forced into anything, I like a choice and anything with Evri involved i would not be choosing. So when my things have finished I will be calling it a day. Worst decision Ebay ever made!

I couldn't see that there was any way to arrange Evri collection via Simple Delivery, because it costs more and there is no way to top it up, so I've excluded from my postage, because too far to nearest drop-off. They have always been very fast on picking up collections, we have a good service here.
The adverts on TV are for private sellers, it's not free to sell as a business seller, so one has to assume that they still want us...but they haven't really gone about it very well. And although free there is such encouragement to promote listings, it' now at the bottom when adding new listings.
Have very few views on my listings - same for my parents' accounts!

None of my listings have had Simple Delivery forced on them yet (they relist automatically). I started trying to improve the title of one just now, and the Revise page said "This listing has been updated to be posted with Simple Delivery", so I cancelled the revision, and delivery hasn't changed. Revisions I make in the Overview, like the price, or adding Best Offer, and probably changing the number of items, don't make SD happen. So I'll just have to resist improving details that involve Revising the listing, and if I find a serious error, cancel the listing. And, of course, not list any new items. Ever. What a shame.
