Selling mulitple (different) items under one listing

I have camera equipment that I no longer use as I am getting to that age which limits my options.

I have some Canon Equipment that includes several lenses and a main camera included will be a camera kit bag and a few odds and ends like cables and power supplies etc.

The listing will be posted with no returns, so i am a little concerned that if (I've checked and tested everything) someone has an issue with one item what will ebays position be?

Thanks

Buyers have 30 days to return a purchase they claim is not as described, and the seller must provide a pre-paid returns label.

If there's an issue with one item and the buyer is willing to accept a partial refund then that would be a good way forward.

Even if the listing clearly states No returns?

I'm slightly unsure as to how to answer your question as it's not totally clear what you actually mean by 'multi-item' listing.

If you mean a listing which has multiple items each available individually then each item is a separate purchase and would be dealt with as such should an issue arise.

If, however, you mean a single listing which includes multiple items as one lot then if there is an issue with one item and the buyer requests a refund they would have to return everything they purchased and you, on receipt, would refund the entire amount originally paid.

As for 'no returns' - although private sellers can post listings with that notice it will not prevent a buyer from opening - and you having to accept - a 'Not As Described' return case. No returns for private sellers is pretty much limited to being able to refuse change-of-mind returns, but even then a buyer could then open a dispute with their payment provider and you may end up with having to refund the buyer, pay a £16.80 dispute charge fee AND lose the item.

Hope this helps.

If you sell a set items under one listing, and the buyer reports that one item has a fault, then under eBay's rules you are required to accept a return of the whole lot for a full refund. You could offer the buyer a partial refund, but the buyer doesn't have to accept any such offer - they can insist on a return for full refund. (Or you can refund in full without buyer returning anything).

You can only get out of a return if you can categorically prove to eBay that the item was as described when the buyer received it. This is normally impossible (seller cannot disprove damage in post, seller cannot normally disprove a buyer report of a fault), and that is the way consumer law and eBay's policies are set up - buyer is assumed to be right.

If you want to spread your risk then splitting the items into more than one listing could be an idea, though of course that will likely mean more postage costs, and maybe more legwork for you.

If the listing is categorised as spares/repair, rather than used, is the seller still obliged to accept returns?

Yes, for parts items can still be Not As Described. For example a seller can sell a broken black case but send a broken red case, then the item isn't as described.

There is no guaranteed way to avoid returns when selling online, that is how UK law is set up.

Listing the pieces separately is definitely better - a buyer may not want several lenses, just the camera body, or vice versa.

Just mention in your listing description that you have additional relevant items on other listings.

It actually doesn't matter, rjwilmsi. I know you're only giving a colour difference as an example of a NAD return for an item sold as For Parts or Not Working, but the fact is that a buyer can open a Not As Described return case for absolutely anything sold on eBay regardless of the condition given on the listing.

I've seen numerous posts on the subject, including one where a buyer bought something on the off-chance it worked only to find it was genuinely for parts only and opened a return based on "It doesn't work". They got a refund. I know, go figure...

eBay not only state they never see individual items but they almost invariably side with the buyer in a Return case. Even if the buyer purchases an item listed as 'For Parts or Not Working' they can still open a NAD case for any old reason and the seller has to accept the return or both refund the buyer and lose the item.

Also be aware that if you were intending a variation listing and you sell one item from the listing when the listing renews sometimes eBay will relist with the sold item as available again when it has sold. The only way around this is to completely delete the item from the variation dropdowns. (And then double check later the same or next day.) Very annoying glitch.
