Postage labels

At the end of last week, (Friday or Saturday), I sold an item. On Sunday, I downloaded a postage label, with the intension of taking the item to my local Post Office the next day, Monday. On looking at the postage address to which I was going to send the item, I noticed that within the address was the following, EBYHPY,WGDL. When I looked at the order status later on Sunday, it showed that the item had been dispatched. This obviously couldn't be the case because the PO wasn't open. I then downloaded another label, (the original having disappeared), & noticed that the above EBAY etc. had disappeared. I then took the item on Monday & sent it as normal. The bad thing about this is that, Ebay have charged me £10.25 for the label that THEY had erroneously cancelled.

Ebay mark something as 'dispatched' whren all you have done is download the label. ☹️

Yes, it can be confusing; I'm not suprised you thought there had been a mistake somewhere.

(the random-looking string of digits within the actual address is part of the ID for tracking the parcel. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about)

You have got 14 days to claim back the cost of any postage tickets you haven't used, though (even though you 'downloaded' it, you didn't post it, so it's 'unused'). So all is not lost there! You just have to get it done within 14 days of downloading...

Its Ebays daft system........it marks the item as despatched as soon as you download the label.    Plus the original label can only be downloaded once.   I have noticed that the tracking number is only added to my account only once the item has been handed over at the Post Office.

As you downloaded another label i think that is why you have been charged.

Oh dear no... I may have got that one well wrong  ...were you posting as 'seller pays' or 'buyer pays' ?

If it was 'buyer pays' the refund will go back to the buyer, as they are the one who bought the postage.

In that case, sorry, you've had to buy postage yourself because of ebay's stupid 'marked as dispatched' system...

Yes - and this happens with Custom postage (if the postage is purchased through eBay), as well as Simple Delivery. I think in this case, the OP used Custom postage, so there will be no automatic postage refund to the buyer.

Maybe eBay would refund the cost of the original unused postage label, if the OP contacted eBay to explain the confusion, and why another label was purchased?

Yeah, until I started selling I had no idea by simply printing the label, the item was marked as dispatched. And yes it is annoying, lol. I'll often have an order packaged and ready to go out on a Friday evening, but because I can't go the post office at the weekend, I choose to wait till Sunday evening to print the label (to drop off on the Monday). This was because from past experience, the buyer getting a notification of a dispatched item on Friday, meant they were expecting it Monday / Tuesday.
