Postage glitch ?

Please keep a keen eye on your postage costs.

I listed some items earlier and it wasn't until I finished that I noticed that the postage amount was showing as £2-70 on each listing, as opposed to my usual amount of 89p.

It appears that I had been automatically enrolled into Simple Delivery. eBay Customer Support have escalated this to the IT Department as they are at a loss what has caused this. It should not have happened.

Even stranger, when Customer Support thought they had managed to revert my listings back to the correct amount of 89p, it came up as £1-07. This is a 20% increase on 89p (VAT added?)  Customer Support have no idea what has caused this.

Hopefully it gets sorted soon, but as I say, please check your listings in case this happens to you.

Unfortunately, you have to opt out of Simple Delivery each time you create a listing.  You can't opt out at account level.

If Simple Delivery is to be made mandatory then they really need to come up with a lower price option for low value standard letter sized items such as postcards.

Rather than creating new listings, if you use "Sell Similar" on your current or recently sold items, they pick up whatever those listings had for shipping. Alter as necessary.

That's what I thought and that is exactly what I did. The Customer Support agent said likewise and he couldn't understand why the postage appeared in the way it did.

My wife also listed items as "sell similar" on her eBay account and the postage appeared at 89p as per usual, but it appeared as £2-70 on my listings.  Absolutely nothing was different in the way the listings were done.
