FOR GOODNESS SAKE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH eBAY ???
Visited my local Post Office outlet this pm. The customer in front of me had 4 of her items sold on eBay refused due to incorrect printed labels supplied by fleece-bay. The member of staff confirmed this customer was not the first to be turned away today.
I am sure that I read, eBay stated Post Offices will accept all items for dispatch.
Thats another incorrect bit of information from eBay.
The question I have, is what does that poor seller now do with those 4 items ??
OKAY, eBAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH … GET IT SORTED.

I've only ever had 2 problems with evri. one they delivered a half box that was empty and they lost a very expensive (huge) book I sent, for which they fully compensated me.
I can only use collection and did use them for large items under 1kg (the drop off is a 16 mile round trip).
The people who run the local part are amazing and I have called them because of a mistake on a label, they've never failed to pick up (their family used to do the milk round). But like all delivery services they are pushed for time. I dread dpd being the courier they leave the parcels all over the place, tho the last few months things have improved. I've lost 2 boxes of chilled food because they didn't deliver in time. Yodel are very good too.
It very much depends on who is running the local depot - and the driver on the day.

It’s just important to me to support local business. Use it or lose it, as it is becoming…

yes we feel the same ,the lady who owns our small PO is only young and bought the PO 3 years ago because at the time it was a good investment the previous owner retired and was always busy ,but now sadly things have changed not for the better either .People try to get on in life and just get kicked in the teeth .

yes that is a good thing. Fortunately our local post office is busy, and we still use it for some things. But I don't drive and I have bad health, so it does suit me to have collection from the royal mail.

When I first started listing I would find relevant packaging, place it round the item (not sellotaped or anything in case they bought more than one item), and shelve it with a note sticking out as to what it was.
However, it took up space on my shelves, took time to find the right packaging, I 'ran' out of packaging, so in the end I only looked for packaging once an item either had a bid or had been won.
It's also not cost-effective to have every item pre-packaged and kept aside, unless you remove and reuse per listing.

I would say there is no need to pack items until they are sold.
I usually try to find items when I get a bid - often a brooch will be on a jacket or a necklace might be 'on loan' to my daughter.
But it is fairly easy to 'guesstimate' the size and weight.
For Large Letters, I put the weight on Ebay as 99g and for parcels up to 2kg, I would put 1999g.
There may be some items that you will need to measure but everybody can use their common sense and think about how big an item may be when bubble wrapped or how heavy it might be when you put it in a box.
It's not rocket science!

It was just a way to speed up packing when I had a sale. It was the way that worked for me. But as I no longer sell...

As was mine twice, finally got one through worder slightly differently, the what are sellers supposed to do with these rejected parcels, still waiting on an answer. I did get a personal message stating I was off topic, not sure what they mean we were discussing sd, my question was about sd, and my subsequent accepted question was about sd.
Censorship of hard to answer questions? possibly or to me they don't understand English and it's many nuances.

I never guess on size, i measure using my body. if i can carry it's a small parcel if i have to tuck it under my arm it's a medium, if it takes 2 people its a carrier. I have a thumb for large letter first knuckle to tip of my thumb is large letter. Has never failed me so far.
But we all have different way of guessing the class of postage and weight can be guessed and be mostly correct such as a bag of sugar will be 2kg packed correctly.

Do you ever use smell or taste to get a postage metric?

No daft question IMHO
