Could of course be simply the case that the current Khoros software has reached End of Life so they are either upgrading to a new version (or they are moving from Khoros to a cheaper forum software supplier)

I was looking for something model railway connected the other day,  being unsure of the exact title for a proper search I tried by category. You would think that model railway would be under the 'sports,hobbies and leisure ' category but no, that's sport, musical instruments, arts and crafts , event tickets and holidays. 

I gave up in the end

You can search for "Model Railway", then open an item in the most common/likely [sub]category and then "list everything" in the desired category by selecting the category (potentially not the lowest level subcategory) listed on the item.

It could be exactly that so, as we're all speculating in a vacuum, your guess is as good as mine.

Or a more AI driven version that doesn't require humans to evaluate text which would probably be cheaper. If so I think more of us will end up on the naughty step.

Yes, I was thinking the same about not being asked for any suggestions beforehand, so obviously it is going to be presented as a fait accompli - and maybe not open for much modification afterwards?

Khoros was acquired by a company called IgniteTech in May last year who subsequently laid off ~80% of Khoros' staff. Under its new stewardship Khoros is set to become an AI-first platform; the version eBay is using will not be supported in the long term.

That said, I don't think eBay will miss the opportunity to "fix" some things during the transition.

Recently I forgot to select a category (Crafts), so searching "3D-printed model painting station" produced items to do with railway stations and garages. The search results included lots of pretty people in catwalk poses wearing too much make-up and not enough clothes. I doubted they'd be into painting scale model figurines and deduced I was in the wrong category 🙂

(I don't paint scale models, btw.)

The ebay cafe-round table section on the forum is in constant use so certainly not dormant as suggested.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if it stays after the changes maybe overseen by an AI bot!

I was meaning the navigation on the forum, which is what eBay are saying will be 'simplified' on the new forum. Sorry, crossed wires...! 😁

It is usually after they have done something - 'we'd love your feedback' etc, which rarely seems to result in anything being changed...

It was dormant for a long time and then sprung into life again.    Fine if you want a weather report daily or are interested in sillyness about shooting little green aliens.      Each to their own but defo not my interests.

A couple of those boards are only used by the same 2 or 3 people every day.

There are many serious (ie, not frivolous) threads there but pardon me, you've not joined in? Tragically, many of the long-term posters on there have died even though a thread or two originally posted by them is still going strong.

I forget exactly when I first posted on the boards but it's at least 27 years ago. My first post was on the (now defunct) Q & A board with my original selling ID but after seeing the antics of the wannabe comedians and the keyboard warriors I quickly created a posting ID. I used that for years until ebay introduced a rule that if you wanted to post more than 10 times a day, you had to have a F/B of 10 or more so that's why I changed to using this ID but changed the ID to CD which is what people used to abbreviate my original posting ID to. After a time that rule was dropped but I stuck with this one for posting. Other IDs were used as main selling IDs and over the years I've seen many, many changes and people coming and going so I, (amongst many?) am wondering what new torture is about to be inflicted upon us 😀😇????

Do you honestly think i am interested in No Knickers Friday and you constantly using the word lecherous when referring to young girls/ladies.        As i say each to their own but i do not participate because i am not interested in such behaviour.   If you want the truth i am also not impressed with your GIFS of Jesus dressed up and selling some Fluffo soap.     Not my thing sorry.    Not my sense of humour 🙂

IF i want a more serious conversation then i will speak to my real life friends.
