NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I've sold 260 items on eBid in the last 60 days. Not as busy as eBay in its pomp, but easily outselling the eBay of today.

i think it depends on what you sell, mine are mostly clothing and have had 1 sale over the past couple of weeks since i started (that was a jigsaw) but i have had more views than i have had over the past few months on e bay.  I am just putting a few on each day and am getting more familiar with it, was confusing at first.  Have to wait 21 days for payment as a newbie but that is okay with me.  Hopefully the more private sellers go there the more it will get known about and used.  I had never heard of it until mentioned by 'theleench'.   What makes it worse is that i actually liked this site until they brought in SD which is one change too many for me.

Not sure which are the best alternatives to selling though, a certain other e-named site seems to want a high 'buy in' just to sell anything at all, well unless you are happy with a handful a month, and it doesn't seem to have a very active hobby community (Warhammer, RPGS and the like) anyway, but maybe the £60 would be worth it long term.  Not sure.

@fuzzy_spiral

That's actually a fallacy.  That site has several models, you can instead pay a small fee for each listing.  I believe @theelench works this way still, after years of using it.  I can't advise further myself because I have the full deal.

Which I got free because I joined so early that perks were being handed out 20+ years ago.  I feel there's a lesson there.  Very probably, with a variety of new sites starting up, even though such sites look utterly hopeless today, it may be worth taking the long view and joining, giving them a try.  You never know, in a few years time when they've grown enough to be monetised, you might get an early adopter's special.

Ebay are living in very interesting times.

Ive found the best way to avoid simple delivery at the moment is to sell items under different category that lets you switch to advanced options then postage size large letter And edit postage cost.

At some point the monitors at ebay will see listings are under wrong catagory and realise the reason. But probably wont care if it keeps them using Simple But Hard Delivery Option

I hadn't heard of them, (thanks for the information) so I just went to have a quick look.  It says there are no seller fees so I am wondering how their business model works.  What's in it for them?  I would be interested to know if you have sold anything, and how it went for you.

Oh that's good, I was going directly what they said in their join section, had a little table of perks depending on the tier, if you are silver can do 5, I think Gold was 50 and Platinum was unlimited...  but if they are just referring to free listings, and you can pay a fee for multiple anyway regardless of tier, I don't mind that, how it used to be on eBay after all.

Great post.

I've just looked and it is definitely a better looking option to this platform as it is now.

Plus it's a UK site. Please let us know how you get on. It's actually got a Collectibles section which will be very useful.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's a pain now trying to sell large items using simple delivery. I don't drive so used to drop off large items in the inpost lockers next to my house but now I don't have that option.

Is there an option for collection using simple delivery?

just had a look and not much good for those selling their unused clothes (only 76 showing)  plenty of new and new with labels and looking at some of the other stuff i think it is more for people like the pseudo private buyers on here or those with plenty of cheap chinese tat.  I will stick to e bid (at the moment) although they also seem to have a lot of the latter on!

Yes, there is a collection option available when using Royal Mail which now also includes the option for them to bring the label to you if you don't have a printer:

'Booking a collection

If you have a Royal Mail label, you can book a collection on eBay. Royal Mail can then collect your item and also bring the label for you if you don't have a printer. You'll need to book the collection before you create your prepaid label. Here's how:

  1. Go to Orders in My eBay.
  2. Select the order you'd like to book a collection for.
  3. Select Get prepaid label.
  4. Choose the date for the collection.
  5. Select Book collection.

Once you've booked your collection, you won't be able to change the date. If you miss your collection, you can book it again for another date on the Royal Mail website.'

If you wish to only have items collected then you will need to opt out of Evri using the link below as collection is not currently available with Evri:

'Available carriers and delivery options

You'll automatically be opted in to use all carriers that are available in this programme. If you would prefer not to send your items with a particular carrier, you can exclude them in your settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to your Postage preferences.
  2. Select Edit next to Simple Delivery.
  3. Adjust the toggle next to the carrier you'd prefer not to use.'

There is a world of difference between paying a listing fee and paying a fee based on the percentage of a sold item. Only a proportion of my items may sell, eventually, and if I were to pay a listing fee for every item, it would eat into any sales I do make too much, as most items are relatively low value. I would be happy to pay a fee though as a percentage of sales value, because businesses do have to make money obviously.

"There's a site called Ebuygumm, I've started selling on there."

I've just had a look at that site.  It says it's free to sell and I can't see any mention of buyers fees so how do they make money?

In their T&Cs it gives a link to "List of Fees" but that leads to a non-existent page.  So what are the fees?

It's based in the UK which is a definite plus in its favour.

There are fees levied when you use their compulsory payment provider. ( I have been looking there also, difficult to find this detail though) I found a mention of 1.8% uplift off the site.
