AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

And this is all wrong. Royal Mail charges same price for small parcels regardless if they are 1 KG or 2KG! There is no reason for eBay to charge separately. Also, why is the price tag set at 0-100 and 100+ when Tracked Postage with Royal Mail covers up to £150. The options should be for 0-150 and 150+
What a complete joke this is.

Seems those higher chargers are because the sales were 100£ or over
having said that I sold a clothing item 2 days ago and buyer was charged 3.64 instead of 3,38
Broken bonkers system before it’s actually established
which eBay reps call teething problems lol
well, dont flipping launch a dysfunctional system in the first place

It would have made a lot more sense to set the cut off at £150 instead of £100 so that it aligned with the maximum compensation provided by Royal Mail when buying direct from them.

only one thing springs to mind there
maybe I’m wrong though
I’m sure someone might have a logical reason for it lol

Seriously!!! You expect e bay to use 'sense'! I have come to the conclusion that the collective at the top have completely lost their minds. We are now two months into when this farce was supposed to be fully operational and it is still a complete mess up (cannot use the expression i really think it deserves!)

I might have it wrong,but..... I just looked at listing an Item at £9.99,to see what happens with the postage choices, and it shows an Advanced Postage choice, they are all Royal Mail(which I would normally use), but I can see only 3 choices, and none of the choices are Royal Mail Signed for delivery or Tracked 24/48(I would normally use Tracked 48), so how are you supposed to get confirmation of Delivery of an item, if you are only allowed to choose standard Royal Mail delivery.... As I said,I may be wrong.....
Also, I think the new Listing Format is very slow ,and the AI in it is extremely annoying....
I have not listed anything, I was just looking at the new format, as I have only just been changed over to it...

Yup. It's the same with the £10 cutoff for the letter rate when RM provides compensation up to £20. Makes no sense other than ebay nefariously want to unnecessarily limit people chosing less profitable options even if it causes unacceptable waste.
Someone at ebay thought they would design their own postage (eg the stupid idea of merging small and medium parcel rate that probably suited Evri but many people still have a strong preference or need RM for where they live) creating lots of mismatches with both buyer and seller knowledge on how those carriers work and what is unreasonably bad value for money (like the SD large letter rate).
It's been amazing to watch ebay dig their own 'greed grave' to get in and play dead in recent months. The competition must be overjoyed.
Ebay will soon have the most profitable business model that people stop using. I know so many people that wouldn't use ebay and use other places. Can the birth rate keep up with people leaving ebay forever?

Agreed. Mercari, Ebid and others must be cracking the champagne. It is unbelievable that a company who had 6.5 Billion Dollars in working capital just 2 years ago has free fallen to 1.5 Billion as of last year. If that isnt a trainwreck, I dont know what is. They then come up with the idea of monopolizing shipping, freezing sellers funds and removing formal complaint avenues. I think ebay right now is a rudderless ship without a captain who hires lawyers and accountants over support and programmers. I have a feeling ebay will be a case study for future business classes on what not to do when you are a well branded company in trouble.

Well last night at 9.50pm we had an Evri delivery to home (worth £40)
Courier knocked the door.....left the package on the doorstep (no porch and visable from the road) and went. Took me like 30 seconds to get to the front door to see him driving off. A lot of people would not even answer the door at that time and a lot out on a Friday evening😞

I have just had all my listings switch to Simple Shipping so have cancelled them all, except 1, and will sell privately and cannot use the platform going forward like this. I need control over who I use to ship and size/weight will depending on what packing I have available when the item sells, not in advance.
I have no issues if Ebay get a small percentage of every item shipped from a chosen courier as everyone needs to make money but give me the options to ship to fit my life style and work.

The crazy thing is the answer is so simple:
They have gone down the path of trying to run the place on the wrong side of borderline unacceptable to extort as much money as possible from buyers and sellers who will have a terrible experience due to the commercially biased complexity, waste and high fees they have to endure.
Then they wonder why places like the clothing marketplace are doing so well - but take the easy option of screwing whoever is still here further to make up for the cost of their failure.
It's a doom loop of upsetting people and them increasingly doing transactions elsewhere.

I have a few listings up there now but after that with the ridiculous simple postage thing it will not be worth the hassle. I have been selling my old stuff off for years but that will be stopping. I have also spent a lot of money over the years buying on there as well but that will stop out of principle if this is the contempt they hold me with.

I don't get it, it's letting me list letter and large letter still as custom, which I thought was just going to be letter size and I've just looked at listing pottery jug which SD wants as small parcel 0-1 kg £3.38, which it alone would weigh, but with packaging probably would put it in 1-2kg, so I changed it and although weight did change up, the postage stayed at £3.38. I thought it was more to to go up a weight? Or is it another day they've decided to do different prices. By the way I can't find the price list, where do I find it?
Oh, and I wasn't going to list it SD, I was just testing!!

Its the same with amazon drivers, most of them leave their engines running, leaving parcels on doorsteps to be stolen - the legal definition of “delivered” is not leaving it on a doorstep. So if something were to happen, a court would find them responsible.

It’s the same price now for 1 and 2kg small parcel

Oh right, thank for that, I just couldn't find it anywhere, I used to be good at understanding eBay but all this has just completely messed with my head.

Everyone else’s too
No,probs
here’s the link if you want to bookmark it
you need to scroll down to FAQs , there’s a section on “couriers and postage rates”
but still you have to click on the + sign for pricing
kind of hidden really

It’s a disgrace also how we have to pay for a 1kilo as standard for sending a large letter that only weighs 100g or less…so whereby Royal Mail would charge £1.55 for that weight, eBay are making us pay £2.70…Is that not theft? surely trading standards should be looking at this?? Why can’t eBay just go back to charging sellers a small percentage fee on the postage?
Ebay are fecking their platform ..
14-06-2025 10:23 PM
Its because they are all tracked. LL 100g via RM is £2.70
15-06-2025 12:34 AM
The rates are still wrong and eBay scamming money from it's users by forcing this SD on everyone! For a Small Parcel up to 2KG of value between £0-150 via Royal Mail it costs £3.45 with Tracked 48, yet eBay is charging £4.48 for anything above £100. Even Tracked 24 costs less, which is priced at £4.29 on Royal Mail website.
Plus not to mention how ridiculous it is not to have the option of choosing whatever postage we want, either T48 or T24. I was on the fence trying other platforms to sell, but I guess it's a good time now to actually give other platforms a real try. Thanks eBay for making it so inconvenient with such a simple thing as shipping options!
