What an absolute ridiculous amount of nonsense, eBay have created on the saga of printed labels for despatching of sold parcels and packages. Don’t get me started by mentioning Large Letters please.
Post Office outlets refusing to accept underweight labelled items and they have not been informed anything about what eBay has told us, that they have to take all labelled items.
If the Postal Office staff were to take these parcels etc the outlet would be handed a fine at the end of each day as their balancing up would not be correct.
As mentioned before in these community postings, eBay leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to communication …
a) their staff at the customer service offices give you conflicting answers or state they will forward details to tech support.
b) no definitive information regarding despatching of Royal Mail Letter and Large Letter being excluded from Special Delivery.
Why can’t a 250g Large Letter be excluded from Special Delivery ?
c) eBay say they have an agreement in place with Royal Mail / Post Office. It would appear they probably assume that but Post Office Counters beggar different.
The eBay fiasco experienced of BPF, SD etc by sellers and buyers over the past 9/12 months should never of been allowed to happened.
What does senior eBay personnel have to say about this.
Any other large organisation would have a shake of mid-management by now

If Post Office outlets are refusing underpriced labelled items, isn't that something the Post Office (management?) have to sort out.
Surely neither Royal Mail nor eBay can communicate directly to Post Office staff or representatives?

I wouldn't surprise me that when ebay states that oversize are accepted by RM, they mean RM depots / sorting offices and NOT POST OFFICE COUNTERS.

My local post office don't seem to know anything about it. But they are a franchise (?) within a Costcutter store. I wonder if they have received the same level of training as actual official Post Offices?

The usual process is for notices to come through the horizon system on to the screens, there will have been other communication as well though. There is I would have thought a tweak for PO software as when scanning parcels currently it will say reject if not the right size etc. It will now have to include an additional does the package state market place seller, then it will tell them to accept. I haven't been working in our PO for the last couple of weeks so I don't know what updates per se on the screens are. But our branch was aware of Simple delivery a good 10+ days ago.
The one thing in everyones blame game posts here is that everyone has forgotten RM in this, we have seen a few threads now where Royal Mail are surcharging parcels for being undersized, when simple delivery has been used.
So this is not about ebay management, or the post office, but all parties involved (including Evri) to ensure that it operates as best it can.

Royal Mail definitely shouldn't be surcharging buyers for undersized parcels. Any surcharges should be charged directly to eBay's Royal Mail business account.

Not necessarily as I imagine the agreement will be some form of OBA agreement where it will be based on average weights. I suspect more like its been missed and ended up in a yellow revenue bag from the regional hub with yellow sticker on it.

Definitely! Clearly things are going wrong at the Post Office, but as ebay are pushing sellers onto this system they surely have a responsibility to work with Royal Mail / the Post Office to ensure it's running smoothly.
What I don't understand really is why the size / weight are even printed on the label if they're just to be disregarded when the parcel's handed over.

Just curious. Can you share a screen shot of the instructions the PO managers have received

The size and weight aren't printed on the label. It just says *paid and printed from ebay simple delivery*

That's interesting, maybe the size and weight are encoded in the label then and the Post Office staff are reacting to what's coming up on their screens?

And if Parcelink is anything to go by you'll get a nice juicy overlimit fee weeks after the transaction took place

What purpose would a screenshot serve?
It’s completely off topic to the op’s original post of let’s hear from eBay management. The thread is not titled can anyone share a post office screen shot….

Not sure, but imagine all the info must be in the bar code when they scan it. Have only used SD once but it was quite easy. I just arranged collection from RM by using the tracking number and the postman collected the parcel the next day.

So using my Deagostini (model kit) magazine sale as an example. Item sold and as far as I can tell buyer was given the option of Evri (up to 1kg) £2.94 or RM (Rain Man &%§π√ dimensions) £2.40. even though it was advertised as free postage for which I would use Evri without issue. They opted for the cheapest option (RM @ £2.40). I saw the sale come through, packed up as usual in some very specific boxes about 1.5" deep purchased off Amazon to protect the contents. Only when I went to create the label did I realise it was RM with max depth of 2.5cm, which would probably be fine if it was simply normal magazine. The issue I have with all the SD nonsense, is that even if I was willing to entertain the prospect that postmasters have been advised of the changes. Ultimately it's still 10 minutes walk to the post office (in a local Spar), a 5 minute conversation with a potentially clueless cashier, and 10 minutes walk back. So that's potentially the best part of 30 minutes of my time (£5-6 after tax) on £12 sale. A sale which sent via Evri I could send within 5 minutes as it's literally next door to me.
