Is this clear to everyone else?

kat@ebay said in todays chat:

"Simple delivery is optional for items priced £10 and under, letter sized and in certain categories."

I was looking for clarity, but I got a link to the page that keeps changing and has never explained "letter sized"

Is it:

A) £10 & under, small letter sized.

B) £10 & under, small letter sized and under 100g

C) £10 & under, small and large letter sized and under 100g

D) £10 & under, small and large letter sized and under 100g and in certain categories only

E) £10 & under ,small and large letter sized and under 100g OR in certain categories.

F) £10 & under, small letter sized in certain categories only with no weight restriction?

G) £10 & under, small & large letter sized in certain categories with no weight restriction?

H)  Something different.

I know we have gone over and over this but in the chat it was also confirmed that some categories which are supposed to be exempt are not being exempt , so how to sellers know that categories have not been missed off the list also if there is no hard and fast rule.

My drill bits are smaller that lego, Lego does not go in a flat envelope (so large letter) why do my buyers have to pay more?

Please Kat, could we have some proper clarity?

I get the opt out on some larger items, but then in a different category, on a piece of paper  which will go as a letter, there is no option.

It really was never thought out properly.

I've got some exclusive behind the scenes footage of how ebay decide if Simple Delivery is applicable....

That's brilliant 😁

And seems to be a more logical way of deciding whether S.D. or not......     😂

I think it’s D)

Listing exempt items brings up 3 options 1st and 2nd class letter and 2nd class large letter at under 100g pricing

So theres definitely the weight restriction

as to the exempt categories list, it’s not complete , it just gives examples

The only way to find out if your item is exempt if it’s not on that list , but is definitely small and light , is to draft a listing and see

But then you have items actually on the list but don’t bring up custom postage when listing

There is a time when you give up eventually trying to figure it all out

🤷🏼‍♀️

Ed dreams, i almost agreed with you,

except that jewellery is on the list and is fully exempt.

Accessories can go large letter £1. 90 and Yodel £2.69

And just because "computer says NO" doesn't mean computer is programmed correctly.

We at least ought to understand why items which have always gone large letter £1.55 can no longer do so. Kat@ebay

Your drill bits do say the postage is £1.55 though, or am I missing something here?

Yes, but if I try to change the price or add anything new they change to SD. As do any other tools of a similar size.

Ah ok, with yeah now 👍

No answers though I'm afraid, except if theres an option to put the weight in the item specifics that may help, only a stab in the dark though.

Thinking about it, wonder if the AI is learning from the item specifics..keep getting pestered to fill in more of em here

Hmm

listing a necklace under costume jewellery seems fine , custom postage defaults immediately and  recommends 1.55 large letter ****

listing a silver pair of earrings under fine jewellery …only SD comes up

someone posted on another thread that when they removed their Firefox firewall they could access custom postage

just another bit to mix into the mysteries

****NB this alone imho should prove that opting out of SD does include large letters as well as letters)

I also believe it's D - that's how it works for me. I tend to use the term "subcategories" though; to indicate it's not talking about the top level category.

Hi Ed Dreams, You lost me at "Firewall" but there may be something in that because:

If I try to sell similar a drill bit (reamer) on the app I get Custom Delivery £1.55.

Screenshot_20250710-231929.png

If I do the same Item sell similar on the desk top i get SD and no option for custom delivery.

I tried on Edge and Opera with the same result. My phone is Google pixel. So do you or anyone else know what a firewall is, do i need it, why is SD bothered by it and how do i get rid of it.
