In praise of eBay CS (probably just got lucky)

In my recent blockbuster thread entitled 'red flags' I told the sad story of a kid who bought some Yamaha speakers and they sounded all wubbish with his drugdeala wannabe drill boom boom music. He was proper sad times bro. Boo hoo.

However, he didn't post them back (change of mind return accepted, his expense) so eBay closed the request.

As expected, this morning he posted -ve 'speakers were well rubbish and broken [lie - they weren't broken, he didn't like them...] seller ignoring me, still at least i have his address'

Within 5 minutes of reporting it, was removed. Fair play.

eBay's feedback policy was updated a couple of days ago; the update included new stated grounds for removal.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Probably because their feedback policy states they remove feedback that includes any implied or explict threats or intimidation. Him writing "still at least I have his address" certainly seems like an implied threat to me.

Thanks, didn't realise, much more comprehensive. Surprised they want to make things so complex for themselves, but welcome.

Oh my... so I don't know why I did it, but I wondered how many other negatives this guy had left for others, and I could not believe it, he is a seriously nasty piece of work and had literally left HUNDREDS of unpleasant comments for multiple people, including, suspiciously, similar 'complaints' about speakers from other sellers.

But then this one caught my eye. Moderators, this below is a DIRECT cut and paste so if it is suitable for feedback, it is presumably suitable for here...

Wow, talk about timing.

The little git has filed a chargeback against his payment method for this item.

It's couched as a 'quality of goods' chargeback, but then in the description he claims to have sent it back. He DID open a change-of-mind return which I accepted but he never provided tracking so it was auto closed. I am hoping that with no proof of that (although I suspect they will be giving him a 'second chance') this claim won't get very far? Or is it a wink and a nod, and a foregone conclusion that I will lose my money 😞

They were asking for pictures of the item (not sure what that is going to prove either way, its still one word against another) but not only that but I added the Royal Mail picture of it being delivered to his house... Oh dear.

A seller is only protected against an INAD chargeback if an MBG case opened for the same reason was decided in the seller's favour. Your buyer didn't open an MBG case so you're not automatically protected.

I'm genuinely suprised eBay hasn't kicked this "buyer" off their platform already. I'm actually wondering if the reason they didn't open an INAD case in the first place is because eBay have removed their ability to use the MBG - it does seems odd they didn't go for the easy option from the outset.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

That's interesting, I hadn't considered that, was thinking that perhaps they were a bit thick, but no, your version sounds more likely. I have never seen a buyer leave so many negs and neutrals and demand (from what I can gather) so many refunds.

I was fully expecting an INAD from day one when the idiot started making these odd claims about these very good speakers. He first claimed they were 'tinny' which they probably are being slightly biassed for classical music like most Yamaha stuff is. Now he claims one doesnt work at all in the chargeback. But it never came, just a change-of-mind buyer pays request.

In some ways I feel a bit better knowing he's been a '****' to everyone, not just singled me out 🙂

I guess if you're a seller making large numbers of sales a week it would be too arduous, but personally I routinely check my buyers' feedback at the time of sale (while stabbing my zombie doll of ebay designers, for the extra click needed now it defaults to the meaningless "most relevant").  A quick scan of the feedback  they've received, but a more attentive scan of the feedback they leave.

HUNDREDS of suss comments from your guy?  So that rather gives the lie to the fiction that ebay actually do anything about rogue buyers.

Yes and no, see Mr Bathrooms comment above, I think they are right - guy can't do claims any more, only buyer-pays optional to accept returns.
