I have already tried to drag a photo in the way described by eBay help from it's current position onto the main photo, hoping it would shift of or swap the ordering.
However it doesn't work and all I do is highlight/select text.
Last time I had this issue I deleted all the photos and started over.
Any steers would be gratefully received.

I've only ever dragged them around to change positions. Just single click, move and then release the click.

A single click gets me into "Edit photo", in the same way if I had clicked on the edit pencil.

That's happens when I select a photo. It sounds like that's what you're doing. To rearrange you only click once on the photo and you hold the button down while moving the photo. Release the button after you've moved it.

What device are you using to do this?

That is what I have been tring to do as per eBay help instruction. Yet all I do, depending on which photo I move my mouse from, is highlight the text "Main photo". No photo actually moves.

Sometimes the app is reluctant to move an image to position one. If this happens, drag the other images to the end until the target image moves up to position one.

Thanks, tried that but nothing moves. Depending on where I move the mouse from/to I only get to highlight/select "Main photo".

Well, I'm stumped.
I've just tried on one of my listings (Windows 11) and, when I left click on the image and keep the button depressed and move the mouse, it moves the target image.
New battery in your mouse? Mine misbehaves when it's running out of juice.

I opened a private window in Firefox, went through the login text nonsence etc and guess what, I can click and drag the photos as expected.
Not sure why a standard window has these limitations.

In 'Edit Item' - left click on photo you want to move (keep left button down) - drag photo to required position - release left click.
It works for me on desktop Windows 10.

Just tried that too. The photo doesn't move and just highlights text wherever I move the mouse.

Windows 10 desktop.
Do you mean you are using the browser that is installed with Windows: Edge?
Problematic.
Or since you say using a private window in Firefox worked, you are using Firefox? Again, Firefox has its issues. (Firefox used to be great, but it has gone downhill in the last few years, IMHO.)
The de facto standard these days seems to be Chrome. I suggest having Chrome installed even if you don't use it for daily use.

It was Firefox., my normal go-to browser.
As you say it is increasingly problematic, mainy lack of testing by institutions like eBay.
Either way it's not obvious why it should work in a private window but not in a normal window.

True. I admit I have long since given up trying to work out why some things work and some things don't, or why some things work for some people but the apparantly same things don't work for others. Far too many variables! I simply try to keep as many options open to me and try them all. I think I must have at least six browsers on my PC.
I'm not defending Ebay but I do have a certain sympathy for tech firms trying to test everything on so many combinations of hardware and software (and then fix the results).
