OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?
Solved! Go to Solution.

Very interesting!
So the solution is to select "Seller Pays" and simply not use the label?
If so, that's a good workaround for now.

The drawback is that the SD tracking number has to replaced by the non-SD tracking number, or your items won't be marked dispatched & your payment won't be released for longer... two weeks?

The ebay customer service I talked to had no idea how it works. He/she (I won't disclose any personal information here) said it will be be automatically refunded to the seller, while in the latest instructions says the seller had 14 days to claim for refund. But if you click through the link to claim for refund, it does not give any options to claim for it. A different more dated document says it will be automatically refunded after 14 days.
Again, ebay, sort your *bleep*e out.

You can add an addtional tracking information with the one that's actually used. In which case, the fund release will follow which tracking that turned Delivered first.

I'd rather wait 2 weeks than give this crowd another single penny. If ever an operation needed mandatory regulation, it's this platform. Beyond ridiculous.

I also see that they are hiding the buyer's address details so that we are compelled to use the label.
So infuriating! Anyone know how to access the address details?

I suppose eBay will be making money by holding on to your payment for longer, but they won't get their cut from the SD label if the seller applies for a refund.
If the buyer pays the postage, the seller would have to consider adding enough to the item price, to cover the cost of the non-SD postage... otherwise the buyer gets the refund, but the seller will have had to pay for the non-SD postage...
My brain hurts... 🤕

I replied to your question above.

I’ve changed from offering free postage to the buyer pays. Ultimately it’s the buyer suffering the consequences of SD.
I’ve also signed up to Shopify and will move everything from eBay and Etsy over to that. Yes, I’ll have to do some advertising to get the eyes to my new shop but I’d rather spend the money doing that than giving it away to eBay.

'You can add an addtional tracking information with the one that's actually used. In which case, the fund release will follow which tracking that turned Delivered first.'
Thank you. I think there is supposed to be a link to how to change the tracking, but I have not done this myself yet.

It should not be an issue for you.
Properly registered business sellers, and surely anybody who has 42 'XTool P2S Lens Locking Ring Removal Tools' to sell is a business seller, don't have to use Simple Delivery.

And how is quantity relevant? I could have listed a million units or just one — that does not determine my seller status. I am not a business seller, so Simple Delivery does apply to me.

But not a business!

Correct — not a business, just a guy with a 3D printer, some engineering skills, and a bit of marketing know-how. What’s the term? Kitchen-table CEO!
But since we're on that subject — why the deflection? Instead of addressing the actual issue being discussed, you’re spinning this into some commentary on my selling status. It’s a transparent attempt to shift the focus, and frankly, it says more about your approach than mine.

This thread is about Simple Delivery.
Business sellers (i.e. those that buy or make things to sell) don't have to use Simple Delivery.
It's not deflection. It's stating that the answer to your buyers 'suffering the consequences of Simple Delivery' is in your hands.

By your own logic, why are you even engaging in this Simple Delivery thread, considering you're clearly a business seller?

Some of us have business and personal accounts. Personally I really like SD and would love it to be available (optionally) on my business account.
Glad eBay is professionalising though and forcing a number of personal accounts who are really businesses to move to a business account, to fulfil their legal obligations. And the reporting to HMRC to reduce tax evasion 🙂

It's a useful feature IF they make a few changes in terms of irregular sized parcels, overweight etc. At the other end of the scale is the unaceptable price increase for small packets versus the true cost of sending via Royal Mail.
PS, HMRC know all about my £320 of sales in the 24-25 tax year....

I'm sure it will continue to improve but the cheapest RM small packet (£1.55) isn't that different from £2.26 small parcel click and collect the buyer can choose.
If they start to compete with Amazon prime and have a loyalty postal subscription, exciting times ahead!
