Final selling price should be determined by the seller not ebay.

Those are the new rules now a comin' in probably for all categories by end of February, for Private sellers.
That is, a Buyer Protection Price is added to the listed item. Buyer sees full price to pay, and a breakdown at eBay checkout.
It's not liked by many, but it's coming!

Well I guess if there's a breakdown at eBay checkout at least the buyer is aware of the original price set by the seller.

Correct it will show seller's item price, and Buyer Protection price.
I'm also seeing on some of the items already with BP that the breakdown is actually on the listing.
It's all new, the little bots still working hard perhaps, as to how it's gonna look to a buyer from the onset !

How weird. I thought auction sales price was determined by the price the buyer wanted to pay. Does the original poster object to this too? Refunds anything above starting price? Thought not!

You're talking about the price of tea in China. I'm not!

Can you give some item IDs for listings that are showing with a breakdown of the figures? I haven't seen any as yet.

I'll try and find some, and post back here when I do.
There haven't been many, and it's only being applied to electronics and some games for now.

Thanks - I've noticed the BP fee has now been applied to categories under 'Home & Garden' and 'Business, Office & Industrial' as of this morning.

For "Buy It Now" listings, the seller does determine the final selling price.
Sellers are aware of the new charges, so are fully aware that, if they list something at £10.00, their buyer will pay £11.15 (once eBay sorts out the 72p anomaly). If sellers want the buyer to pay £10.00, they price their item so that the seller will pay £10.00 after the charges are added in.

I've already closed 500 listings and the rest will close soon, it's 'bye obey time we parted company'. I'm not desperate and won't be dictated to, neither will I buy here! I also notice that 5% vouchers are being place on my sales items, as buyer incentives, for items over £10 spends while utilising funds within your account. Are obey already feeling the pinch and don't want to see money disappearing out of their greedy little mits elsewhere - too late methinks, the rot has begun!

'I thought auction sales price was determined by the price the buyer wanted to pay.'

Have you ever been to a real-life auction? Or even just watched one of those Auction/Antique type telly programs?
The buyer bids up to their limit.
And if they win, they pay that, *and* the buyer's premium to the Auction House (roughly 15% of the sale price ? from memory..)
