Ebay shafted Sellers

I would like to ask sellers about the new rule on having funds on hold until they have been delivered to the buyers , what do sellers think to this ?

For me i feel shafted as a seller of 20 years

Hi.

I too have been on ebay nearly 20 years.

This new policy is just a money making ruse so that ebay make interest on the private sellers funds until they are made available.

I don’t really care.  Having opened my first selling account five years ago just after managed payments started (I remember a lot of people were angry and upset about that too) it would actually be an improvement on the 30 day hold I’ve always had as an ‘new or infrequent seller’.

Its the upcoming postal changes that have made me decide to not sell again.

I don't blame you.

As soon as I lose my choice to use who I want to use that's me done as a seller.

Thanks for agreeing.

Ebay are taking to have total control thing way to far.

That’s the thing that made me realise that I would be treated like an employee, not an individual just using an online platform to place an ad and provide a checkout. I didn’t mind paying a listing fee and 13% for that.

Ebay have a history of getting rid of anything they don't like.

They got rid of paypal managing payments so that they had control over payments.

They got rid of selling fees which made things transparent.

Now they have introduced of holding onto sellers fees for as long as they can.

Next it sounds like they want total control over what postal options a private seller has.

It's becoming a very bad joke.

The options are not even going to be options for the seller.

As far as I understand it we’ll be expected to measure our packed items before listing so the bots can choose the options to present to the buyer and then finish packing, print the label and get it sent from whatever ‘drop off point’ I’m told to within two days. I don’t want the ‘job’ that this very much sounds like so I’m stopping selling.

There will be no more buying either as I only ever browsed and bought on ebay when I was on there listing my own stuff.

You got it spot on.

After all ebay is meant to be a platform for normal people to buy and sell on.

So much for personal choice.

I have been on ebay since 2004 and this is the WORST decision they have done. It was bad enough now with the ''Buyer Protection Fee' which seems to have started on electronics, then would go onto everything else. Once again, the private seller is being taken for a ride.

I sold one item abroad, now I have to wait for the item to arrive and expect to be paid on the 26th Feb, what a joke. If the person who bought the item has not left feedback or mark it as arrived, this would mean that you do not get paid. Some non tracked items automatically update via the postman, while others would never show as delivered unless the buyer marks it as arrived.

I am considering just freezing my sales until they change or amend these stupid decisions. I would rather they bring back seller fees as before as it clearly is a way for them to be making back money.

I wouldn’t kick up too much of a stink, @pinball-fantasies

Sexually-oriented adult material is not allowed to be sold on eBay. I’m sure they turn a blind eye when it isn’t made obvious, but that doesn’t make it right. I recall Veronica Zemanova from my youth – and I wasn’t looking at nude art!

If you have been given permission to be a reseller of those photo & video collections in digital format, then you are also trading (i.e. a business). If you don’t have permission, then you are breaching copyright laws.

If ebay can't control something they get rid of it.

I've been on ebay since 2005.

In that time they got rid of paypal managing payments which worked well but ebay wanted to control payments.

They then got rid of sellers fees which made things transparent for sellers.

Now it's this rubbish policy of holding onto a sellers funds for as long as possible.

And the rumour is that they want total control over what options if any that a seller has for postal options.

Greed and control spring to mind.

The items you refer to seem to have been removed just two minutes after you posted. Nice to see @pinball-fantasies doing the right thing?

I thought the black knit trousers was a delightfully quirky listing among all those packs of photos of naked ladies.

None of it's great, but what will stop me selling is when they force Simple Delivery on everyone.

We can only hope they suffer because of their power mad decisions.

I totally agree.

That will totally finish me as a seller after nearly 20 years on ebay.

100% with you on that and I have been a seller for only 10 years. Also, they are selling the same product twice, like some kind of circus hustler. Let me explain, the buyers have to pay a protection/insurance fee, so they are covered incase of loss of delivery etc, but also the seller is no longer covered if he uses economy delivery, even with proof of postage (we are at the whim of the postie as to whether he scans it or not upon delivery), so they are forcing us to use tracked delivery which is a lot more expensive. By their own admission, quote 'We are in partnership with Royal Mail', so obviously they will fill their coffers even more if every seller starts using tracked delivery, see what I mean? Heads they win, tails you lose. Last point I want to make, when they first mentioned this protection fee for buyers they said it would be the buyers choice, but now it is mandatory, ok but the least they could do is refund this or a portion of the fee back to the buyer if nothing goes wrong with the delivery. Greed, pure greed, they are sure making up for the loss of seller fee, which obviously was some kind of governmental decree or law.

another thing about this buyer protection fee, I believe that it is actually giving dodgy buyers even more incentive to lie about the delivery when they see that the item is not tracked, so because of the extra fee they would no doubt feel strongly about getting it back along with the purchase. all these changes Ebay have made will come back to bite them in my opinion, time for other selling platforms to rise to the fore.
