Hi
Last night I listed a caravan on ebay, I had a bottom price in my mind, someone offered a bit less so I did not accept, contacted them with my final offer. A bit later I receive an ebay notification saying sold and the price I wanted. The buyer did not message me to say they would go up to my final price, so I am a bit confused and nervous as it is being collected today. I was under the impression that the buyer was going to bring cash as this was defaulted to when I created my listing. Would it mean buyer has 'paid' e bay. I also have not added my bank details to my ebay account, do I need to do this? Should I contact buyer to ask for a screenshot of his qr code?
Thanks

Caravans are cash on collection.
Electronic payments can be easily reversed, so eBay will not take them in the Motors category.
So, your buyer should bring cash with them and hand it over once they've inspected the caravan or, if you prefer, you can ask for instant bank transfer when they collect, which can't be reversed.

Definitely only accept Cash-on-Collection.
With you being a new seller you are ripe for somebody to try taking advantage of you.
Be careful and have somebody else with you as witness to proceedings.

Just a quick add to this - if you accept a bank transfer be sure to check any bank transfer on your own device before you let a buyer take your caravan as there is a scam where the buyer can make it look like they've paid, yet have not.
Cash is the best way, personally, but good idea to have someone else with you & check the notes as well as the amount!

In addition to the advice that you have already been given on this thread, just in case you were not already aware of it eBay have recently changed the rules regarding cash on collection for items sold on the site, the end result being that they have done away with the Cash On Collection option for everything except vehicles, (caravans do count as vehicles, so you're OK in this instance). Any other items that you sell on the site must be paid for via eBay Checkout.

If the buyer brings the code with him/her then you will need to scan this to confirm collection and payment of the item seeing as it is a cash sale. However, it has been a long time since I last sold anything on eBay, so things may have changed in the meantime. Having said that, however, if eBay haven't drastically altered the Selling page since I last sold anything on the site it should be possible for you to mark the item up manually as having been paid for if the buyer does not provide a code for you to scan using the method explained in the next paragraph.
In the event that the buyer does not provide a code for you to scan then go back to your Selling page and click on the £ icon to mark the item up as having been paid for. Once you have done this click on the envelope icon to confirm Item Despatched so that the buyer doesn't end up receiving an endless stream of eBay reminders to make arrangements to collect the item from you.

With Cash-on-Collection the buyer will not get a code. This is only released when payment is made thro' eBay.
Note: if they have paid thro' eBay I strongly recommend cancelling the transaction, there are so many ways you can be fleeced (item not as described, bank card chargeback etc) and/or be responsible for going to retieve the caravan.
It would be better to lose the sale than lose £5k and a caravan. Any negative feedback can be overcome because the buyer did not comply with payment requirements.

It is my understanding that they can not pay via Ebay for this caravan as Ebay do not handle payments within this catogory & the only payment method available to the buyer on your listing was cash upon collection.
Have you given them your bank details to pay?
Personally I would stick with a cash payment when they arrive so they can check they are happy before they take it away & there is no comeback later.

You're welcome.
It looks like a lovely caravan - we used to have an old Swift that I bought when my dog couldn't walk very far anymore - we all loved the freedom of it, but the car didn't much like towing it!
Good luck with the sale.

To clarify, your buyer cannot pay via eBay checkout.
Your buyer will not get a collection code for an item sold in the Motors category, your buyer is paying cash on collection (or bank transfer if you prefer) so a code wouldn't be needed.
If you do want payment by bank transfer then the buyer should come along and inspect the caravan then, if they're happy with it, you give them your bank details, they stand there and make the payment via their phone or tablet and then you check your bank account on your device to make sure that there is a payment showing there.

I would advise adding your bank details to eBay a.s.a.p. in readiness for any future sales. It will save a lot of agro with payments being witheld etc.

Hi, how did the transaction go?
Hopefully everything worked out OK.

Glad it went reasonably well. I personally wouldn't have dropped the price again, I believe they had already got a bargain.
On your 'Orders' page showing the item there is a drop down menu (under 'Leave Feedback) 1 option should be 'Mark as Dispatched' or 'Mark as Collected' simply tick that.
