DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Has anyone else noticed lack of sales since the buyer protection update 4th february 2025. I used to sell quite a lot and virtually sold nothing since 4th Feb. Can anyone else relate to this and what can we do?

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I've done my postage through ebay so it makes no odds to me, I suppose.

I was the opposite, found it more of a faff to address stuff and then take it to the post office to sort out.

I suppose it's different for everyone.

I don't have to type in measurements or weight, I just choose "small parcel" and then select the royal mail service I want which is usually tracked 48.

That automatically covers anything up to 2kg and 45x35x16cm

After that you can print the label or just show them the barcode at the post office and they will print a label for you or you can have it collected for free.

There are currently only 2 choices for SD Evri and you can disable Evri and ebay will only override it if you happen to sell something too big or heavy for royal mail which is unlikely.

Ebay also tell you to disable Evri if you want to have collections.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I can only think that, if any offer is generated by eBay, eBay would have to cover the difference - just as with some of the vouchers etc which they do generate.

But, really most of my “watched” sellers, who have sent offers previously, have increased their discount.

Any change will only benefit eBay - and sellers will be left to deal with the fallout - just as with this fee.

It's not just BPF. ebay has really upset the apple cart with BPF, simple delivery and monetary holds relatively on top of one another. In 21 years I have never known so many very unhappy ebayers. This has far and away eclipsed the backlash over managed payments.

Agreed about unhappy ebayers over the recent changes, I was on the forum back when managed payments came in but the shear number of complaining posts this time around is much more with nearly every post about some aspect of the changes for private sellers.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Ok, but you DO need anecdotal evidence and that's what other sellers are giving you here. Beyond that, we may need to step back and wait before jumping to conclusions, including the one that seeks to eliminate BPF as a potential cause in loss of sales.

In other words, it may simply be TOO SOON to say for sure. But they do look pretty awful and off-putting, speaking from a would-be buyer's perspective.

same hiting buyers just means more on the item so sellers need to drop price just to sell 'madness just give sellers a fee like it used to be its harder to sell this way

Half of me thinks it would have been better to bring all the changes in slowly- one change at a time- which gives a lesser but slower pain.

The other half of me thinks it's like ripping a plaster off!  Do it quickly, all in one go..... OUCH! then it's over and we just get used to it (or don't sell anymore)

But I'm an old stick-in-the-mud; whatever change happens I'm probably not going to like it..☹️.   😂😂

This is something others have been saying too.

I think it would be nice to have the option in our listings to pass on the whole free to sell and allow us sellers to take the 4% fee, or pass the fee onto the buyer. Kind of like the way we can choose to offer free delivery or not.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Private Sellers had to previously factor in 13%+ fees to their prices.

Then they’ve since had a short spell of “free fees”.

If any seller reduced their prices to reflect the no fees situation, surely factoring in this new (lower) fee shouldn’t be a problem?

It’s only a problem if sellers didn’t reduce their prices?

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

To me the last user you just replied to just seems to be using nodding head psychology.

Repeat something enough times the weaker willed will just start following the leader.

As for the argument around BPF, there are elements within it that are platform killers. The Offer system is the Sistine Chapel of corporate *bleep* ups.

I've never seen anything that remotely compares to how bad that is from any other major corporation.

They've already had to do a mini rollback on Simple Delivery. Probably because any serious legal complaint from someone disabled would have taken it completely out of the game. We (the user base) still need to look into that though as there may well still be stuff they missed which can be attacked.

But the biggest problem they have created for themselves is "bad blood". People don't forget this kind of thing and if at some point in the future an opportunity to pay eBay back for their "favours" arises, many will take it.

Simply out of revenge.

This is something I plan on doing, but i'm not sure. I have read in other forums that it can be a problem if you're selling something under £10 (I haven't done the calculations myself).

It does also mean international buyers will get the item cheaper than UK users as they don't have to pay the fee at all, so could end up in a loss for the seller considering we still have to pay a fee for international sales as well.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I agree. On the one hand the BPF has trashed the buyer experience (not just with offers but in the basic search order and checkout palaver). On the other sellers are being punished by the payment retention regime. It's almost a perfect storm aimed at both sides.

Having said that, the current search by lowest price actually favours private sellers. I'm happy to be corrected on this but Ebay appears to be using seller item price + postage and completely ignoring its own buyer fees. We should expect business sellers to be up in arms about this. Yet another for the list of things to fix? And more unnecessary bad blood.

For those that think the seller can restore an original item price to as it was BEFORE buyer fees increased them all I can say is try it. Enter an item price below 99p. See what happens.

I have today relisted a couple of records and they're not even in the right place when I sort my own page. Another mystery? Goodness knows what is going on there. Ebay is making my head hurt.

Hi

I'm the same, in England, small business selling, sales have almost stopped. I have lots of watchers but absolute minimal sales. Very worrying. Trying to decide if to continue listing.

How long have you been listing stuff in your current capacity?

"I've been self-medicating my 'hurting head'"

I've been trying to stay on the wagon. Admittedly with Ebay it is a challenge. 😁

Also, I always want to know what's going on, just can't help it. Especially when they're messing with MY listings.

Everyone wants to know why something is happening, trust me, nobody hates the not knowing more than me.

I'm just trying to point out the pitfalls of latching onto a cause, because it's human nature to want to tie everything up neatly.

Like I said, the one thing that is consistent on these boards is that there's always a group of people at any given time seeing slow sales, and the temptation is always there to hunt for a cause for what's happening.

Even the OP of this post appears to have pretty much recovered to normal pre 4th sales activity.

This sort of time of year is usually a bit slow for me and last year specifically hit an awful patch, and felt like hitting a brick wall for a while, and I was desperate to find something to attribute it to. I came to the boards and saw a "sales dead january" topic and went in there and it just contributed to my feeling of doom. So much speculation and people insisting it was this or that thing ebay had done, that ebay was over etc.

But then March and April were both exceptional and new records.... and over time I've realised that there's always threads about slow sales, it's a continual and ongoing thing.

Things are a bit slower for me at the moment, too, but not quite as bad as last year and not nearly as bad as last August!

There are people saying vinted and etsy etc are going a bit slow at the moment, too. But then other people say things are going good. It's hard to reconcile such opposing viewpoints.

I'm just used to some ups and downs by now, ever since that "cassini" search engine came in, I have found sales patterns tend to be less uniform.

There's always a steady trickle, but there seems to be peaks and troughs now whereas before that the sales charts would be more uniform and steady. The end result tends to be the same, but how it gets there seems to always be changing. The enquiries have been less consistent since that time, too. I might go months and months with multiple daily messages then suddenly there will be several days with no sales OR messages but it has always changed again, so far.

It's an emotional rollercoaster, and as many times I've lived through slow scary patches, only to go on to have great spells, you still never totally get used to it, the paranoia always creeps in.

So many times I've found myself with no orders to send out, no messages coming in etc. But then other times, I curse ebay for throwing so many sales and messages at me in such a short space of time and struggle to keep up!

Past experience has taught me that things will pick up again, but it doesn't stop things getting a bit nervous and I understand the desire to know what's happening so there's something that can be worked on to fix it, but it can be a slippery slope.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I meant messing with my listings in the order they're being presented to me. I currently have a record priced at £3.30 appearing more expensive than one at £4.05. What is it doing there?

If you can shed any light on this particular mystery I'd welcome your suggestions. Perhaps the buyer fees have been added twice? With everything else Ebay has messed up recently we shouldn't put it past them. 😉

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Do you mean inside "my ebay" or when you view your profile as a buyer?

Do you mean you're sorting it by price high to low, and the results aren't in the right order?
