Opinion Sought - Poole Pottery

Hi All

Just wondering whether it is worth putting up a listing for an item I have as it is somewhat unusual!

My sister was a paintress at Poole Pottery (Delphis) and then went on to design and paint jewellery for them until she left in 1983 to have her first child.

She brought home lots of different things and this one item is figurine of a woman and it is unpainted. Nothing - just the figure not glaze of any type.

Is it worth putting up?

I would like to see a picture, but I would have thought with good provenance it would be worth a try. There may well be a specialist Poole collectors forum who can advise.

Hi,

There are loads of 'one off' and 'trial' Poole pieces which you would hope are rare and valuable, unfortunately the reality is that most of these turn out to be 'Friday afternoon' pieces, that is come the end of the week if a paintress had an hour left and a bit of glaze left over they'd grab a pot or plate and just have a play and see what they came up with. Many of these were taken home or thrown away and retrieved from the bin by enterprising magpies and turn up for sale as 'rare' trial pieces. In reality Poole collectors see them for what they are and have no interest in them. I would suggest that your unpainted figure has no great value, after all Poole Pottery used to have a 'paint your own pot' section for the tourists and your figure could have even come from the items produced for that.

I hope I'm wrong and if you decide to list it it makes you lots of cash!

I know exactly when she brought it home as I can remember it was a James Bromley run I've since been informed the Elegance series. I remember being allowed back of production and smashing the seconds - they started charging for that in later years! I have decided not to part with it but thank you for your help.
