Scottish Islands Delivery

I recently purchased on eBay from a seller that appeared to be able to send the goods to the Scottish Islands at a very reasonable minimum cost (most excellent service!).

The goods were sent via Evri and although tracking wasn't very good i.e. there's little point telling one that its arrived at the Evri Hub when it doesn't actually say where in the UK that location is?

Anyway Evri clearly managed to transport the goods successfully all the way up the UK mainland, thereafter it was handed over to another and a few days later delivered to my door by a local courier.

The reason I've decided to write in and tell of this experience is because I attempted to purchase another exactly the same from another eBay seller but was met by "Doesn't Post to Scottish Islands", asking why only provided me with "I am sorry we don't post to your postcode".

Out of curiosity, I put in a mainland postcode and learned that this seller uses Parcelforce 48 as a Free mainland delivery method. (The seller also advertises postage to quite a large part of the world!)

In the past Royal Mail has delivered mail/parcels on behalf of Parcelforce within the Scottish Islands but it was usually beyond the 48hrs contracted for by Parcelforce.

Regarding postage  -

Most Couriers (except the Royal mail) charge a surcharge to delivery to the Islands surrounding UK Mainland.

I use the Royal Mail with no surcharge.

I'm not saying that the actual delivery courier didn't charge, only that my payment for the eBay item's delivery was extremely reasonable and if correct this method of shipment is certainly worth mentioning.

I did contact the seller to enquire just in case there was some kind of hidden charge on their side but although the seller wasn't aware of any, I haven't heard any further confirmation back from him.

I'm not an expert in this at all but my understanding is sellers can choose, irrespective of what courier(s) they use.
