There are highs and lows for many delivery companies. Sometimes, we, as a business find one is ok for a period and then we have to move to another. Staff seems to be the key, rather unsurprisingly but we keep our options open and on many days use multiple companies. I have seen complaints about royal mail, Yodel and Evri (Hermes) most recently but to date I have to say that being a small seller and sending up to 11 or 12 packages a day Royal Mail works for us. But buying is a different matter and this is where I join in others by asking why does eBay continue to support a company like Evri, who to us, has failed consistantly to deliver or even when it has finally got to us the delivery is substandard, smashed, broken. I am yet again awaiting a package costing over a 100.00 and being resold as part of another set of items. three days after its last due date its not here and tracking has stopped, you dont know where it is, just the intended date and delivery but marked as delayed. This has happened so many times that now I pre empt and ask sellers not to send via Evri and if they have, as soon as it is delayed I start asking, using all the email address I have for Evri and eBay providing the tracking numbers. It costs me time that I could use elsehwre but this is because out of each three items lost I may actually get one by being quick. Seriously this is how many iotems go missing, get lost, are broken or the lates one is "destroyed" Sellers please understand, using Evri will end up taking a lot more time, cost you more money and probably losing the sale. By the same implication this must be costing eBay, who we know is all about the money, one hell of a lot of money. Evri may be cheap but they dont do the job. The mistake by many sellers is they dont understand that they have a reposnability to ensure the item gets to the buyer and not that it ends when they hand it over to the courier who is only contracted by them to deliver. In our case that contract has been broken many times and has cost sellers time and lost sales while eBay has had to fork out a lot of money in compensation. For us its loss of business, lost sales, while we will never use Evri to send we still have sellers we buy from keen on the "cheap" price and dont realise its false economy.
If you have bad service from Evri please complain, lets raise this profile and either get them to understand that its not about chat bots and automation, its the people they use to deliver, to handle and its obvious they are not motivated. Whats the use in having such a basic tracking and AI when the system just does not know where your package is or where it has been delivered or what to do about it when it is gone...... Somewhere in the ether of Evri.

It definitely must be driving more business to Amazon. The extra pound or two is worth the weeks of hassle anf messages

The only real solution to the problem is to message every potential seller and ask them which courier they use, unfortunately there are a growing number of sellers running a bait and switch postal scam in which they claim to use Royal Mail but actually dispatch with Evri instead of a proper courier.
It seems clear that eBay don't care, because they have recently changed their postal options so that buyers can't even see the courier details anymore.
eBay began as an auction house, but now it has become a lottery. Every transaction carries a risk of Evri, it's up to the buyer to decide whether that's a risk they wish to take and, indeed, whether they wish to support sellers who clearly think so little of their customers that they would inflict Evri on them.

Has it occurred to you that the reason why eBay is so opaque about postage options is because they are undoubtedly aware that stating that they use Evri is going to cost sellers a small percentage of business as many people will not make a purchase if they know it is coming with Evri instead of a proper courier.
I, for one, put sellers who use Evri straight on my WRII blocklist.
There's no way I would risk Evri, it's just far too much unnecessary stress, and I'm not giving money to any seller who clearly thinks so little of their customers that they would inflict the worst courier in the UK on us.

They don't lose the parcels, they are stealing them.
Why do you think the parcels that arrive always have holes poked it them, or have been slashed open and sealed up with brown tape again?
It's because that's how they decide if a parcel if worth "losing".
Evri management must be aware of it, how could they not be?
The bottom line is that parcels containing electrical goods, phones or sportswear have an unusually high chance of going "missing", while books about medieval history arrive almost intact (subject to the usual water damage, bumps and slashed packaging).

You have to check if it says dispatched or fullfilled by Amazon, otherwise are other shops and they might use Evri or other couriers.

I used Evri a lot before 2022, selling most items with very low value. In 2022 I bought and booked a delivery to me from a private seller for the first item worth of value, and guess what, it left the depot and they couldn't find it. I still don't know what was of it, someone took it out and that's it... all the other items less in value apart for a Disney mug sent abroad ages ago, arrived safe, the mug broke they said. I started declutter or changing mugs since 2020, because i have too many, so one in when one out, and RM never ever broke one of them. I pack them the same way, bubble wrap, proper box and air cushions where necessary. They are thieves.

All you can do as seller is to put leave only RM on in your settings, or turn Evri off.

I have experienced as you have stated and therefore my modus operandi is that I refuse to buy from sellers who insist on using Evri (Hermes).

I have just had yet another valuable item disappear into the Evri Ether. It sometimes takes me hours of searching to find these items and it's so disappointing to just see them get lost or stolen.

Well here is a new one for me - Buyer brought item December 21st - dispatched 22nd - posted to buyer 22nd - Buyer messaged me today - not received, so contacted Evri - what's happened to the parcel?
Short sharp sweet answer from Evri:
As you used simple delivery - just refund the buyer or send a duplicate item whilst we investigate.
What a crock of s.... - that is no way to encourage users of Evri postal service or Ebay to keep using Evri postal service, if they simply just say refund the buyer as it was simple delivery.
What are Ebays thoughts on this ??
Would be interesting to hear.

Perhaps Evri could change their name to deflect from their terrible reputation. How about changing it back to Hermes.

Yes, Evri are a joke company. I use Royal Mail, sending an average of one parcel per day, and don't think I had one failed delivery last year. However about half of the parcels I receive from eBay come via Evri and so many are delayed or go missing it is a joke. Most of my other parcels come via Royal Mail and I can't think of one failed delivery last year. I cringe when I see a parcel is coming (or probably not) from son of Hermes. I am sure the small amount sellers save by using Evri can't be worth the headache, although this may not be the case now as eBay have chosen to take the responsibility for failed deliveries through their annoying Simple Delivery system.

Yeah, I lost a very good deal few months ago for this reason, but when you think it would have been arrived crushed and broken, or again, stolen, I don't get sad anymore, and it is just the peace of mind not to have to let the seller chase them and wait for ages, until you don't sue them. Once was enough for me.

That's actually what they always say, even when they stole my item, which I bought from a private seller and was one in a kind, still today I couldn't find it in that condition, they told me to just have the seller send me another one... They are so used to deal with shops, that think everybody has a stock, and no regard for second hand unique items or conditions. And their nonchalance is a red flag, because they are used to this and doing like this daily, who would ever entrust them with their items.
