payments

Hi Everyone! ALERT regarding verification message.

I have some items listed for sale and today I received a very strange message informing me an item has been sold and to copy a link into my browser to verify account details for payment of said item. The text looked very weird and I was dubious it was some sort of scam so I contacted eBay for advice. On discussion with the agent about the issue, I was informed that the message was indeed a scam to get bank details and to to delete the message.  The agent was able to see the message I'd received and thanked me for bringing this to eBay's attention.

So PLEASE BE AWARE sellers not to click on any links and to contact eBay if you receive a similar message.

This is a new but increasingly common scam.

Because they are in ebay messages members seem to drop their guard and treat them with less suspicion than phishing emails.  However they are from member accounts (usually US based), set up soley to masquerade as ebay.

What's ridiculous is that ebay seem to be incapable of stopping these messages yet can stop ones where they think members are exchanging contact information.

Re: payments

Yes, it appears as though the message was from an actual account but I haven't clicked on the username  because that too may be a trap! It's just as well I'm paranoid about potential scams🤔 but other sellers might not be so are at risk of falling for the con.!

I do think eBay should send an official email to all members warning them of this nasty scam.  Surely it is their responsibility to safeguard their customers.

I just hope sellers in particular see this comment thread and word gets out to be very cautious when receiving messages in your eBay inbox regarding payment for goods sold because of course getting paid is very important to all sellers.

It is just awful that there are shady individuals trying to rob folk with these online SCAMS, it's very disheartening.

BE AWARE, BE CAUTIOUS everyone!
