Has anyone encountered something like this before?:
- large item bought (sink weighing circa 45kg)
- opted to return it. Return request accepted. Received an email from eBay saying a label would be available on Monday.
-label duly received, printed and put on parcel. Explicit instructions from ebay were to take to parcelforce drop off.
- I did so and upon arrival, the Parcel was refused as parcelforce only accept items under 30kg.
- called eBay and they said “yes, you’ll need to make your own arrangements to return”.
crazy.

Why are you returning it?
Have you changed your mind or is there something wrong with it?

The size was wrong for what I needed, but that’s by the by in my view.
The issue is I was told “follow these steps”
once the return was accepted, which I did. And taking a 45kg sink across town to then have to bring it home is not ideal at all. Seems a massive flaw in the system, but eBay didn’t seem to mind.

It's not 'by the by' because it makes a difference as to who is responsible for the return costs. In change of mind returns it is legally, and almost always, the buyer, unless the seller has opted to pay.
Ebay can't provide a label for something of that weight, you will need to sort it out yourself, perhaps relying on the sellers return policy rather than ebay.

Yes, you’ve totally missed the point there….
i was highlighting that there’s a major flaw with this automated “follow these steps to return your item” process…..

Ebay's systems are set up to deal with 99% of cases, just because they didn't work for you, with a exceptionally heavy item, does not mean there is a 'major flaw in the system'.
You could take some responsibility for not checking that the label was suitable, that would have saved you a trip.
