I purchased an item and the seller said it was out of stock so issued a refund, I got an email to say that the refund has been sent but looking at the card it is going to isn't used anymore as i didn't add my new card details, i have sent the seller what has happened and awaiting his response, what will happen to the refund if that card isn't used anymore.

If it was a bank card the refund will go to the linked bank account.

Nothing the seller can do.
If the refund is sent to a ' dead' account, it will just bounce back to eBay and await your input of the new, valid bank / card details.
Preferably using a laptop / PC and Chrome, use the link below to add your valid card details to your eBay account.

It will take a few days to verify and confirm those details then the refund will be sent there. If this was a credit card, it can take up to 30 days for it to appear, in that card account.

I added the new card details as soon as i noticed the mistake, will the refund eventually go to the new card

Yep, it will , may take a few days to verify it first.
Just keep an eye on your account details, as said, if it was a credit card, it can take 30 days to appear, bank card around 12 days in their respective accounts.
