sold 30 items and got a red banner to update tax info

I've sold 30 items , just my private stuff, about 200 pounds worth before all the postage taken off etc..I've now got a red banner asking for my NI number. do I need to comply with this request, as I'm not really going to sell much more , I thought you could sell up to a 1000 pounds..also if I cancel my last 2 orders which I have not yet sent out, will that put me under the threshold again, and will I not have to give out my NI number. I don't sell anywhere else, I just don't feel comfortable giving out my NI number for so little amount I have sold.

Ebay no doubt need it on file for reporting purposes. They do not know what you are planning to sell or not sell.

Once asked they will probably keep coming back, to be honest the vast majority of sellers have supplied this information without coming to any  harm.

I thought if you were just selling your own private stuff and not going over the threshold of 1000 pounds, you didn't have to report anything to HMRC

You don't but ebay has different reporting requirements.   Look at Digital Sales Reporting in ebay help
