It's not what she should do but what you should do. You need to find a way to get her the refund.

Now case is closed, ebay won't get involved.
If you still want to refund buyer, that is up to you.
It will need to be done by Paypal (if you both use it) or bank transfer.

Ebay will close the case if the buyer doesn't return the item within the timeframe allowed; the buyer did need to contact Ebay and update the tracking to avoid this.
You can/should refund the buyer,
Go to the sold item, click on 'send refund' from the dropdown menu and refund the buyer the amount they paid you.
I believe one of the options is that the buyer returned the item but choose the most appropriate reason.
