Hi, I have a customer who bought a plant from me, the plant was delivered to customers safe place on 10th september, however the customer has only retrieved this item from the safe place on 18th september, the plant has died being left for so long without water and light. the customer requested a refund which I have given for the cost of the plant. How are postage costs refunded? I used simple delivery. Thank you

Poor plant. Not actually your fault so it's very nice of you to refund thebuyer. If you'd done it via an ebay case or cancellation the postage would have been refunded. Now you'd have to send as a separate payment but not sure the buyer is entitled to that.

Thank you for your reply. I have asked that the buyer contacts ebay directly to discuss postage as there is no option for me to refund the postage, and as you've mentioned I am not sure the buyer is entitled to a refund as the plant was left in the safe place for 8 days. I'll wait and see what happens and hopefully will know how to handle situations like this if it happens again.

How shameful, expecting you to refund them because they left it for two weeks after delivery before retreiving a live plant!
It's a pity you didn't insist on them claiming a refund through eBay - it would have been interesting to see how they reacted. Unfortunately, knowing eBay they would probably have supported the buyer anyway.

Unless postage was paid to you not your problem. If buyer bought the postage, and you just received a label, then it should have been dealt with by ebay through the case.

Thank you for your reply, yeah I was a bit taken aback but decided the refund was the best way to keep the buyer happy as they have bought from me several times before without any issues at all, and yes I think ebay would have refunded anyway.

Thank you, I have directed her to ebay for a postage refund. On reflection and if this happens again I will probably opt to advise the buyer to open a case, though I think ebay would probably refund anyway. I issued the refund after the buyer messaged me without a case being opened. Hopefully this particular issue of leaving a plant for so long in a box won't happen again.
