it appears you can only get combined postage to work automatically for 2 or more purchases if you have a business account.is that corrects I only sell 1 or 2 items a week so this is not wort it for me

You don't need business account to combine postage, for example, with Simple Delivery if the buyer puts all items in their basket and pay for the items at the same time, the postage will be combined automatically. Maybe your buyers are not putting all items in the basket together before they try to pay?

As a Private seller , as you are selling used unwanted items,  you are using,  should be posting for items which comply, using Simple Delivery.

Here as marco@ebay  has explained if buyers first place items in their basket,  postage is combined for them at checkout.

Perhaps on your listings you can add, as I know many peeps are still not sure how combined postage works when sellers use Simple Delivery,  something like....  ' I am happy to combine postage, but to facilitate this,  please first place those items in your basket,  and a combined postage will be shown for you at eBay checkout. '
