eBay forces postage options for sellers - how do I change this?

I want to list a small, low value item.

I want to include simple postage: Royal Mail Large Letter. Not tracked [value is small].  This costs, retail, £1.55.

eBay 'thinks' I need a tracked service and wants to charge me £2.72.  This is not appropriate.

I cannot find a way to specify this. It seems eBay wants to control this and it's not working for me.

Unless the item is included in exempt category, you cannot use just large letter.

There is no list of exempt categories, but if when listing it is exempt there would be a CUSTOM POSTAGE box  available, but it would not be Simple Delivery.

Exempt categories are mostly small collectables, up to £20/100gms.

Re: eBay forces postage options for sellers - how do I change this?

Thanks for the prompt reply, but I'm not understanding how this might work.  How might I 'find' this exempt category?

For clarity I'm listing small parts for fishing rod repair, typically a couple of £GBP.  It doesn't make sense t require the buyer to spend more that item value in postage.  Nor does it make sense for me to set a fair price, and then be charged by eBay an inappropriate postage rate.  Basically, I don;t want a tracking service (nor would the buyer) which costs more than the value of the item ...

Incidentally, eBay shows a 'recommended' option with a radio button, but this cannot be deselected!

eBay doesn't give a complete list of exempt categories, but as John says, if the category you select during the listing process is on the list the "custom postage" link will appear for you to use.   If it's not there that means it's not an eligible category and you have to use the SD choice of postage.    Or you can use free postage on your listings, pay for postage yourself and then claim back cost of the unused SD label.

Grateful for the further explanation, thank you.  Certainly the community is far more responsive than eBay.

I'll try to find another way.

Prime example of limitation of choice.  Regardless of the category, why is there a default to a small package? [And yes, I know this is a rhetorical question ... ]

ps 'SD' = system default?
