Work around for Simple Delivery- Experience From One Sale

Like many the new "Simple Delivery" has proved to not be what it's name would suggest. I've had a few sales since it's inception that have bewildered me slightly.

First was a buyer paying for postage when I don't charge for it (They are now given the option to choose something I didn't know I was offering apparently! And choose an expediated service rather than standard!) Can't really grumble too much as I've gained a few quid in that instance although I also had the inconvenience of taking it to a collection point rather than have it collected from my door, in hindsight I could of probably used the details to book collection although I had been sent a QR Code for the prepaid label I thought I had to use in a depot but it also coincided with my first use of RM since they started charging 30p for collection and I kind of assumed I was being charged because it was a separate transaction and not at time of purchase of postage.

Second was a buyer selecting Evri, again they selected  something I didn't know I was offering as postage is free in my listing and I now had the inconvenience of finding a working Evri machine in my locality, of the 4 nearby (and from looking in the community it appears others don't have an Evri collection point nearby) it can be a lottery as to which is working and often all 4 are down! Luckily the nearest one was working but in all honesty I prefer using RM 48 Tracked for all my sales as I have confidence in it over many years use and all the Tracking information is readily accessible.

So having sort of worked out what was going on with Simple Delivery I've been back through all my current listing and revised them. I've lowered the price but now charge for postage but select what service. In the postage section you are able to select "Custom Postage" instead of "Simple Delivery" here you can select the dimensions and weight of you package for which  a price is displayed (great saves me referencing it elsewhere) and more helpfully the sender, Evri, Yodel, Inpost Locker Drop-off, DPD, Other Courier and most helpful to me Royal Mail Tracked 48 (all the different services are there too) are listed,(not sure if you can select multiple couriers as I only want RM so didn't investigate further). Brilliant with the exception that the option for a tube shaped item isn't there but I'll come back to this in a moment.

Today I made another sale, buyer has paid and selected the only custom option for postage given (included in the total along with the item price and BPF) and I have all the relevant details I need to post (an address!) and have that all sorted with tracking number given to buyer already. NO prepaid label or QR Code in sight!!

Referencing the tube shaped items again although the option isn't there, the price for tubes is the same as a medium parcel so in theory I could charge the buyer for a medium parcel but when purchasing my own postage select the correct dimension (not an option with a prepaid label) and everyone is happy, as a seller I still use RM Tracked 48, buyer gets the Tracked 48 they paid for, Ebay has a tracking number and RM the correct label for the item.

I know this is only the experience from one sale but hope this helps any other sellers in a similar situation and gives them back a bit of control.

Custom Postage is only remaining available until ebay make Simple Delivery fully operational and compulsory for all private sellers.   That is expected within the next few weeks.    Existing listings using CP will be automatically changed over to SD.
