Warranty on coats

I purchased a winter coat in October last year. Today the zipper failed and it won't zip up now. The coat has been used lass than 6 months since October 2024.

Is there a warranty on clothing like we have in shops?   Seller not responding.

Thank you in advance

Ebay MBG is only for 30 days.

Your only hope is if it was UK business seller and they are willing to sort.

Warranty on coats

Thank you for your response.

I'm not looking for MBG. I'm just asking how long a guarantee would be for clothes. In shops you have generally up to a year if something goes wrong for an exchange if the same item is available. Would this be the same using eBay?

Thank you.

Warranty on coats

I am not aware of such a law for bricks and mortar shops when buying clothes.  If there was one, in theory it could apply to a  business seller using ebay but you would need to take action outside eBay.

Warranty on coats

Some brands do give long guarantees for their products but generally, for clothing which proves to be faulty, you can return for a refund for up to 30 days.

30 days to 6 months, the retailer should offer a repair or replacement.  (I don't know if they still do, but M&S for example, used to have a 'zip replacement service' and I had a new zip put in jeans I had worn for several months.)

After 6 months, you only have those rights if the fault existed at the time of purchase.  So, in your case, even a reputable High Street retailer could say it was normal wear and tear or similar.

However, any sort of warranty is only as good as your ability to enforce it.  If the seller is ignoring you, then there is not a great deal you can do.

If the coat is worth it, maybe find somebody locally who will put a new zip in for you.

Warranty on coats

Thank you for the reply. Just the information I was looking for.

I might be able to do the zip myself, but if not I'll get a seemster to do it. The coat is worth it

It was worth asking.

Thank you for your time
